Reading the thread announcing that DCL has reclassified the controversial obstructed view staterooms started me pondering on the many changes they have made due to guest feedback. Besides that one, there was making the Promenade Lounge non-smoking, bringing back the embarkation shrimp and Palo chocolate souffle, and the current experiment in making the dining times earlier. They even briefly brought back the hand-scooped ice cream at Scoops, although alas, it didn't last. There are many more changes and improvements that I've seen over the years...those are only a few. No company is perfect, but I think they deserve major kudos for listening to their guests and making changes based on the feedback. Not all companies will do that, but DCL has done it time and time again. They will never please all of the people all of the time, but at least they are trying. People who have a complaint tend to be much more vocal than those who are happy, and there are probably a lot of individual complaints that get settled without our ever knowing about them. Disney is a high visibility company, and it's nice to know that even such a large organization can put its customers first, pay attention to what they want and what they are saying, and make changes accordingly. It's one of the reasons we've sailed with them 23 times now, with a dozen more already planned.

But... I think the Kudos have to go to Matt Ouimet and Co. I think Disney Corporate is having their share of problems. I know after some customer service problems we had at WDW we'll never go back.

However I think DCL still lives up to Walt's vision. We went on the Magic a few weeks after 9/11, and it was a very tough decision whether to go or not. After boarding, I have to say there were no regrets, only MAGIC! With all the terrible things happening in the world, it was wonderful to see the multi-national crew and guests pull together and support each other. DCL was VERY accommodating giving us the option to rebook, refund, whatever.

I'm not sure I can see spending the money at the parks, with the slippage of customer service, and the cut-backs in hours and maintenance, but I will fully support DCL with my dollars for outstanding service.

Thanks Matt for keeping Walt's dream alive!

Well said Barb!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said before WAY TO GO DCL!

I feel they did the right thing here as I would have been VERY disappointed had I walked in one of those rooms after being in a regular cat.5 and had an obstructed view for the same price.

Good Job DCL
Thanks for listening

Joanna

hey we just booked the room they just reclassified 7620
thank u disney cruise lines we really dont mind and we know what we r getting peter
we had cat 7 booked just switched rooms for 5 & 6

I believe they listen also...remember when we all let them know how unhappy we were with their changing their chicken tenders??? I got a reply back from my e-mail that stated what future cruisers also stated....they brought back the chicken tenders!!!

Very well said Barb and I agree with you totally.

Now those rooms may end up becoming desired rooms like the secret portholes especially for people who were getting a category 5 and now safe money with cat 7.

I did some checking on cruise locator web site and they are already changed. I was hoping that they sleep four, but looks like they only sleep 3. I would have been willing to switch to save some money.

About the ice cream.....

How can we get them to stick with the hand-dipped kind??
How can they have an ice cream parlor called 'Scoops' and NOT 'scoop' the ice cream!!!!

Maybe they will be back to hand dipped by the time we sail!!

The reclassified rooms were already showing up as Cat. 7 on TA reservation systems as of YESTERDAY (Thursday). It was a surprise to me (p/t TA) because that was before the news broke on the DIS. I'm glad that WebmasterMichelle started the thread about it last night.

This was my thought also (I remember no chicken tenders on deck on our cruise, that problem seemed to be rectified rather quickly)....little things mean A LOT!! and big things (like staterooms) mean even more!!!

I heard they were going to resolve this issue by renaming the location to "Squirts" - it has the same pizzaz, plus then guests can ask for a Chocolate Squirt with Sprinkles. Yum!

:p :p :p

...now if they would just spend a little extra money and return the improv comedy - I'd be happy!

LOL Firefighter Mickey!!! :jester: :jester: :jester: :jester:
I just read hubby your post, and he is ROTFL.
But "Squirts" is awfully close to the Mickey pool...if people shout, "I got a chocolate Squirt!," I hope they won't get confused and shut the pool down.

I agree with DBG. I somewhat know Mr. Ouimet personally. *he was my soccer coach and I went to school with his son, Matt* He works really hard *the poor guy*. Kudos to him and the entire company!

I agree, too. I believe that the commitment to customer service comes from the top down. Every member of the crew with whom we have spoken about management has had complimentary things to say about Matt Ouimet (unlike some of the things we have heard about Michael Eisner from the CMs at WDW!). He is committed to the success of the cruise line, and that attitude trickles down throughout the whole crew.

I agree totally Barb. Not only do they listen and respond but they let you know! At least in our case. We sailed on the 7th cruise when the Magic launched. At that time the Club went to age 8.

My daughter was just shy of her 9th birthday and found the activities in the Club a little young for her taste. Some were ok, but many just were too young. So when the time came to fill out the feedback card she wanted to add her own comments. She took a piece of stationary and wrote what she thought. That 8 was a little old to be with the little kids and that either 8 should be part of the Lab, have more activities in the Lab, or maybe be a choice to be in the Club or Lab. She had me fold it inside the feedback form. We disembarked and didn't think any more about it.

Approximately 4 weeks or so after we came home a letter with DCL logo came addressed to her! She was thanked for her input and told they would definitely pay attention to this matter and carefully consider changes. Although we are now well past that age group she considers it part of her doing that 8 is now classified with the Lab. And if nothing else, talk about building customer loyalty.

Let's see she was 8, with an acctuarial lifespan of about 80...that means 72 years of Disney loyalty? ;)

Barb,

ROFLOL about the "chocolate squirts"! I laughed out loud when I read that!

I never heard, how did the earlier, early dining work out. Did they decide to keep it?
