Question regarding whether or not the kids (particularly the 10 yr old) need their KTTW card to check in and out of the clubs. She will be signing herself in/out and I thought I read somewhere that they do this with the card. Do I need DS's KTTW card to check him into the club?

Lanyard Question: Assuming that she does need to have her card I want to know more about the lanyards sold on the ship. I hear they are about $6 and come with a choice of 2 different kind of card holders, one thicker than the other. Are these card holders see through? Are the cards held securely or is there a chance of the card falling out? Can she swim with the lanyard and card around her neck?

Many thanks as I know this is a repeat question.

We purchased the lanyard on the ship for our KTTW cards, except one of my DD's, who purchased hers at one of the "cool " stores where teens shop, and then she purchased a waterproof holder at REI. The DCL lanyard also worked out well and I was able to put my license and three KTTW cards in it when we went ashore for excursions. My youngest DD swam with hers in the pool and the card was held securely and did not fall out. The lanyard also had an easy release neck strap to eliminate any chance of strangulation should it get caught. She did need her card to sign in and out of the club.

When kids check in, they give their KTTW card to the CM and it is put in a file. When they check out, it is given back to them.

we actually brought ours from home and brought a hole punch with us. it worked fantastic and the kids loved them.

DD(10) in the lab with need her card to sign in and out. Right?

DS(6) will NOT need his card to be signed in/out of the club by us. Right?

The lanyard sold in the gift shop does have a waterproof holder and is secure enough that there is no chance of her losing the card. Right?

Now, here's what didn't get answered.....There are two sizes of "holders" which attach to the lanyard. Are they both clear(see-thru)? Are they both waterproof? Would the larger one hold something the size of a cigarette pack as well as KTTW card and cash and ID?

Thanks for putting up with my endless questions...as you can see I like to really plan things and like lots of details. Everybody here is such a fabulous source of info!

One type is one of those hardside container type cases. I don't remember if they're clear or not. The other looks like a fancy ziplock bag. The advice I give after using both, the ziploc bag is more watertight and would probably be harder for a kid to get the card out of.

We have a large group that is cruising. I'd love to buy card holder/lanyards for our entire group as a gift before we go. Has anyone found a source?

Also, someone mentioned about just taking a hole punch and attatching to the lanyards... does it work to go thru the card?

I'm thinking we'd prefer a card holder of a sort attatched to the lanyard, trick is it'd have to be really secure so no one would lose it.

Just rambling my thoughts....

Jodie,
First, we are on the same cruise with ya!:bounce: :D
We used the hole in the card last time and had a difficult time getting the card off and on. I would suggest getting the lanyard with the pouch this time. I think Walmart sells them for less than $5.
How many kids and what ages are going in your group? I have a 12 1/2 yo son.

every once in a while you'll see the lanyards on eBay....

We used lanyards with a clip on the end and did the hole punch thing. We never had to take them off except when we got on and off the ship. Maybe check the teenie-booper stores likes Claire's for lanyard that typically hold keys and the like. We had one hard holder that I used and kept picture IDs and money in when we went ashore. Just a word to the wise -- take your lanyards off when you are going around town. I'm sure they can pinpoint crusing tourists but no need to put a bull's eye on yourself. JMO
