KTTK and 'credit'?

HI all..

I read somewhere that you can get a 'credit limit' put on your KTTK so you can use it in the parks. It seems like a good idea so I don't have to risk taking my credit card into the parks with me. Anyone done this and can explain how it works?

Would you do it again? Was it convenient? A hassle? etc...

TIA... :)

We've always stayed at Disney resorts, and so our "Key to the World" was our room key and tickets, and you can "charge" stuff at the Disney stores and restaurants, so you don't need to carry a credit card or even cash lots of times. Of course, the Key does have a credit card associated with it -- the credit card used to pay for the resort room. But my kids just LOVED being able to "charge" their own lunches at restaurants at the parks. They felt very grown-up, as if it were a credit card. I did tell them what all they could put on it and set limits on souvenirs, but it's a great experience for them and it's very convenient for all of us.

When you register at the resort you will be asked if you wish to put a credit card down for payment in order to use your room key as a "credit card". You can allocate a specific amount or just leave it as "open". When open is picked, Disney will allow you to spend $500, at that point Disney will send the charges off to the credit card company. Then you will start over.

It's definitely convenient. When you check in at your resort, they will ask you if you want charging privileges put on your card. They will tie your credit card to the key and it will be printed on your KTTK card that you can use it for charges. When you buy something with it, must hand over your KTTK like a credit card, they swipe it, and it gets billed to your room.
As far as the limit, if I'm not mistaken, it's not so much tied to your personal credit as it is the resort you are staying in. In other words, all-stars have a lower charging ability than deluxe resorts. But no big deal...if you're staying for a longer visit, and you don't have a large enough limit on your KTTK, just stop by the front desk and "pay it off" every couple of days and you'll be fine.
I think I remembered everything right...others can add to this. We do this all the time...
also...you can choose how many of your KTTK cards have charging privileges. For example, we are husband, wife, and two kids. We usually have charging privileges on two KTTK and not on the other two. My kids can carry their own KTTK, but not have the ability to charge. Hope this helped.

This is a very good way to not carry credit cards or extra cash. I always take some cash into the parks because some stands without a computer connection cannot take anything but cash. You can have all of your keys with this privledge or some without it. I believe that the credit limit is based on your resort. I'm a DVC member and they usually put a $1500 limit on the card. When you use this up they will bill the card. Upon checkout, you can pay the balance in cash or put it on another credit card. Just check out manually. I think that values put $500 on reserve, moderates $1000 and Deluxe $1500. But I'm not positive about the amounts.

I think your right about credit amounts of card. We have stayed at Value resort and $500.00 put on and card, and the next wil stay at the Boardwalk Villa( we are also DVC members) and they will $1500.00 on credit card.
