KSC/Shuttle Launch Advice Needed

Hi there,

I have never been to watch a launch but due to luck we will be at cocoa beach on the 11th on Jul. I have seen that various places are available to view the lauch although can I buy entry tickets at KSC to gain entry to the park and view the launch. Any advice greatfully received. Travelling to the launch on the 11th Jul.

Hi Steve, you can buy tickets to view the launch and this site will give you all the information you should need.

A lot of the folk on this website tend to do the viewing from areas on the coast close to KSC and they recommend taking a radio so you can tune into the countdown frequency.

We watched Columbia lift off a few years back, and went to a beach at Titusvile near KSC,there were loads of Americans there so we knew it was a good spot
As for the space centre its pretty much closed down to the public I thought on launch day?
We will be at the same spot for this launch!!

We visited KSC for Discovery's STC-121 launch and it was a great experience, although rather busy.

As far as we can remember all the 'normal' exhibits were open - the bus tours were not running before & just after the launch, but did start running again a few hours later.

A countdown clock and huge display screen were set up near the rocket garden where most people were, or you could pay more for a closer viewing position.

Just realised that a launch is on while we are in Orlando.
KSC was to be visited earlier but I am now wondering what the best plan would be for the 11th, as we have already pre-booked general KSC admission tickets ?

We bought tickets back in December 06 for the launch at kennedy, it did include lunch with an astronaut, the lunch was great and the atmosphere amazing. However with approx 4 mins to go the launch was cancelled. It took approx 4 - 5 hrs to get out of KSC and back to Orlando. I would make the effort to go watch another launch, if I did go to KSC I would probably just watch from there rather than get the bus to lake area

Can you book a tour (with bus transportation) when you are in orlando. We will not be getting a hire car but we would like to go to KSC and if so can you do it though your hotel we are staying at POFQ?

This is one of the options with the best possible viewing available to the general public. I believe Gator Tours and Florida Dolphin Tours (not exactly sure of the name there) also offer this option. And there might be more!

We have managed to get 8 tickets to KSC on launch day, great. We have our own hire car. Hope anything goes ok.
