Kouzzina - Opinions and Pics

We ate there last Thursday and we won't be going back. My expectations were very high for this restaurant and it really disappointed us. Spoodles was SO much better in our opinion and as another poster mentioned, I don't think the restaurant with its current menu will last long.

The service was fine as our waiter told us that almost all of the Spoodle's staff returned to the dining room. The room definitely needs a little something however, the beige faux painted walls just didn't do it for me. The room was actually plain and boring in my opinion. Spoodles had loads of pottery and art work on the walls and Kouzzina is dull.

Just my opinion

ITA. We were there last week and was really disappointed. We love Greek food and were really pleased that they were opening this restaurant.

The flank steak was horrible! It came out in a chunk. I've never seen flank steak served in a chunk - to me it should always be cut finely on the grain of the meat and served in slices. It was tough.

The "Avgolemono - Traditional Egg-lemon Soup with Chicken and Rice " wasn't good. This is something we love at our local Greek place. The server warned us that it is really lemony - and it was and them some.

The Saganaki was just OK. IMO it should be served flaming and hot and gooey, but it came out hard and cool. I asked the server and she said they aren't allowed to flame it at the table, and therefore it has to come out this way. If that's the case, I really wouldn't bother putting it on the menu.

My T-bone (chop) was just OK. It was a lot of $$ for a pork chop. ($27) There was a very small (pingpong ball sized) drop of "greens" and the "Citrus-Fennel Marmalade" on the top was just a "drop of jam" on it.

I wish I would have tried the calamari - but didn't.

We never complain about food - but this restaurant has a lot of work to do. Right now, it's expensive and the quality is not great.

Sorry.

:sad1:

I just wanted to add - as I read back a few posts. This was our experience. Please try it for yourselves. It was the soft opening and I'm sure they need to "tweak" a few things. We love certain restaurants at WDW for our own reasons, when I know some really dislike our choices. I will go back next trip because I'm interested in seeing the changes, if any. And will try some of the other offerings.

We ate there last week as well and were disappointed. Two of my DDs ordered the pastitsio and it was OK but nothing to rave about. DH had the steak which he really enjoyed and I had the pork Tbone which was just "OK". Everyone really enjoyed their desserts, but that's not enough to get us back for a second try unless the menu is changed substantially. Service was excellent but the food was just so-so.

I often wonder if anyone with "clout" from Disney reads these posts and uses them as feedback. Hope so!

Figure this thread is 144 messages out of 31 million messages, often with a lot of conflicting and redundant posts. I'm not sure how any company would make use of such a high volume of non-normalized data.

My BFF and I ate there Tuesday for dinner (our last dinner before coming home Wednesday afternoon).

For drinks I had Cat's Ouzo-tini, tasted like medicine, I think it was the liquor that was in it. We mentioned this to the manager and he said it was about the person's taste and we said "yes it tastes like medicine" so he said the other signature drink was better. My friend had a pomegrante champagne sparkler which was very good.

Bread they give you was good but not very warm, butter with the black salt was very tasty. We had the spread appetizer which consists of three different spreads a couple of olives, a pepperconi, drizzled olive oil and pita bread, it was EXCELLENT.

I was disappointed in the dinner choices since I don't eat red meat or pork, I usually get a chicken or fish selection. I ordered the Spiced Briami Vegetables which were tasty but temperature was hot and cold in different parts of the dish. My BFF had the lamb burger which she raved about as being very good. For dessert we shared the Baklava with pistachio gelato which we liked.

The decor is very bland, they need to hang something on the walls they are too bare. Not sure if I would go back, maybe for a different type of cocktail and appetizers only. I think Spoodles was better and we did hear that Cat would probably be at the grand opening.

We have ADRs in early December - party of 9 -- I'll sub to the thread so that I remember to come back and post a review. I always hesitate to put too much stock in Disney restaurant reviews as we're probably not your average Disney Diners. We are enjoy lots of ethnic cuisines (don't let the NH location fool you - we're NY and DC transplants -- 'ethnic' where we live now is NY pizza :rotfl:) and cooking is a hobby of mine so I almost always cook from scratch.

Anyway - we have high hopes for Kouzzina. Am happy that the more adventurous of my DDs is now an "adult" (i.e., 10) -- last year she was annoyed that the kids' menus in the Japanese restaurants in Epcot didn't have more sushi choices. :lmao:

I am definitely looking forward to going here, but probably won't have the chance until February. I agree with those that are saying to wait until the place is officially opened before we pass too much judgement, and as always, try it for yourselves. I for one will not be swayed by "i can get cheaper greek food at my local (insert location here) place" - of course you can! This is in WDW! I can get cheaper (and better) chicken fingers, burgers, fries, etc. but if I used that as my criteria, i wouldn't eat anything in Walt Disney World and I would certainly dehydrate based on the prices of their bottled water! :lmao:
Seriously though - thanks to all that have posted thus far, both positive and negative. I like to hear/read all of the reviews from everyone. Keep posting pictures too!

well, I had to come back and post about my experience.

Kouzzina-WOW, what a disappointment. I cannot believe Cat Cora would put her name on that restaurant. Maybe they are working out kinks still..but I will not be going back. It was one of the few dining experiences that was more than just "not good"...it was insulting. We have not felt that way since we ate at Fulton's on our 8 year anniversary. We skipped our Kouzzina breakfast ADRs the next day, we were still sulking over our pitiful meal.

Look, I "get" small portions. I "get" high prices. But dammit...the food better be good! We started with an appetizer for 2 for $18.99. Lamb meatball skewer, "prawn" skewer, spiced cashews, kalamata olives, hummus with pita bread and some of that greek yogurt cucumber sauce.

Two TEENY meatballs, 3 TEENY shrimp that were rubbery, two tablespoons of hummus, and two tablespoons of sauce. About 10 olives, about 10 cashews. I mean, come one, you can't be generous with the hummus and tsatziki???

Everything tasted good, except the shrimp, which was a shame because DH ordered the Fisherman's Stew as his entree and we realized we would be getting more of the same. Teeny portion, more rubbery shrimp, one small (2 oz?) piece of fish in there, all swimming in a bland tomatoey sauce....just a rip off and did not taste too good. I got the Flank Steak...tender and cooked a perfect med rare...but so salty it was almost inedible. The few potatoes served with it were good, and cut the salty flavor thank goodness. But trust me, the steak was NOT meant to be that salty. We noticed tables around us were being served bread, but we had to ask our server for bread (after we got our entrees and realized we were gonna be HUNGRY.) Bread was a sliced mulitgrain, not warm, perfectly fine but not exciting. Butter was good although hard as a rock. No greens served, so we ordered a side of brussels sprouts which were DELICIOUS! Not overcooked, had some sort of vinegary sauce on them and parmesan cheese...really good. Service was "eh". I cannot complain about the ambiance because it was what I expected...Spoodles. We did wait for a booth, which always adds to our dining experience for some reason. If the food was good, it would have been fine on the romance level.

Again, I am surprised Cat would put her name on it, but hey, I guess WDW offered her a chunk of $$$ for that name, can't say I blame her. Just like Tom Colicchio hawking Diet Coke on TV, or Tyler Florence in commercials for Applebees. I will never forget Joan Jett had an offer to do a commercial and she turned it down, saying she is an "ärtist" and won't do commercials. Years later, after her popularity had waned, she said she regretted it because hey, it was a chunk of money and it wasn't like everyone was patting her on the back for being such a great artist that would not sell out. No one even remembered or thought of her.

Anyway, I hate being a downer about Disney dining. The restaurants are a HUGE reason we go, and I WANT to see them succeed. I realize everyone has a different experience. I also brace myself for the inevitable question that DISers are famous for..."Well...did you let the restaurant know you were unhappy? Did you send your food back, talk to the manager, etc?" Listen, I am the first one to send something back for not being cooked properly. What was I supposed to do, tell them every single thing that was wrong that night? I can't do their job for them. I also wanted to salvage whatever was left of the evening, and *****ing to management would not help that. No, this was basically a dining experience that gets chalked up to "live and learn.... and never go back there!"

thank you for posting...I was going back and forth if I should add this to our Dec trip but I have been reading more bad review than good. Thank you for sharing your dinner experience.

Sorry, but I don't buy the excuse "well, it is Disney what do you expect." I have had some of the best meals of my life at WDW and DL. They are slacking lately in the food department and it is sad. The food was awful years ago and then it became a great place to eat and drink. Their wine lists are amazing at some of the restaurants. Disney has a ton of locals that eat there all the time and many folks from places with top restaurants. They need to continue the amazing food and wine of the past of they will loose a lot of those guests.

We're very easy-going about food & service -- we think the vast majority of Disney restuarants have great food, overall...and we've almost always had good service (exception has been Mama Melrose--good food/very slow service)

But we were very disappointed with Kouzzina - food was underwhelming & service was a mess.

Here's a link to my full review, with pictures...Post 56

Locals can't get reservations at the popular places (which are really only popular because they have characters, provide a view of some fireworks, or sell steak for one dining plan credit), when free dining is offered no one can get any reservations at the last minute anywhere, and Disney's systematically laying off the sommeliers, so I see a further downturn in that area on the horizon. The current management at WDW isn't really interested in the locals or frequent visitors - they're after the once in a lifetime, bring the entire family and splurge for a week or more kind of guest. Fortunately there are still some pretty good restaurants on property that aren't owned or operated by Disney.

Your comment is fascinating, and I'd really appreciate knowing more. On what do you base that Disney isn't interested in frequent visitors? Thank you for sharing. :)

I have to say, I think Nala hit the nail on the head. It has become glaringly obvious to me that WDW is not interested in my repeat business. Many of the restaurants I used to reccommend, I no longer can. I also dined at Teppan Edo for the first time a few days ago. I felt like the biggest sucker tourist. We were crammed together at the table, then, the hibachi tables were crammed in a room that felt like a warehouse. Nothing on the walls, no ambiance at all. Had "mall food court" quality food at $25 a plate.

I am not sure of the dining plan affected the restaurant food quality or what. I just know that each trip I have taken in the past few years, I have seen a decline in quality. Makes me sad, I loved going to WDW and never leaving property...but I think I will have to start venturing out!

I have to tell you that I did a survey today on disney.com that popped up while I was doing my online dining reservations. On the survey one of the questions asked was if I used other websites to plan my Disney vacations. I answered yes. Then it asked which sites I used, and gave me a list to pick from. This site, allears, and mousesavers were listed as some of the choices to choose from, as well as some travel sites, so obviously they are aware. They also asked which I used more to plan my trip, disney.com or the other three sites I listed above.

I suspect it is just a personal opinion, based on personal dissatisfaction with perceived changes and trends. I haven't seen anything official stating that.

I personally think that they are indeed interested in repeat business (though not necessarily from the local community -- it is a resort, after all), but clearly they cannot please everyone.

We had dinner at Kouzzina Monday night. I thought it was rather bland, and the server was friendly but not particularly efficient. It was fun to try something new/different, but I doubt we'd return.:earsboy:

I had dinner at Kouzzina last Friday night, and it was the best meal I've had at WDW. The service was fine and the pan-roasted whole fish was amazing. I also think there has been some confusion about this place; I’ve read some negative reviews on this board, and from the way the waiter described the menu, I think some people really don’t know what to expect here. Greek food, folks – expect cinnamon in your savory dishes. He was careful to explain that the pastitsio was really quite different from lasagna, - tactical mistake, on the menu they do describe it as similar to lasagna, so people must be surprised by what they get. When I asked about the whole fish, he also explained that it would be a WHOLE fish, and recommended I get the fisherman’s stew if I would be intimidated by head, tail, and bones. I had considered the stew, but I was born and raised on the shores of the Chesapeake, and there isn’t a crustacean, shellfish, or fish that intimidates me, so I went with the fish. Wow, was I glad I did! I will definitely go back. As for portion sizes, we were both very full when we left!

Me, too, and I had to honestly answer that I use this site more.

Has anyone here tried the calamari? I'm having a tough time deciding on that or the whole fish.
