I have not been on the Univeral Board recently. So if I missed this sorry -- have they announced what is replacing Kong? Our next trip to Universal won't be until 04 -- we are doing Disney only in 03. I wondered what new and exciting things may await.

Nothing will be annuonced until around Spring of 2003...

We were there this past weekend (10/11 - 10/14) and while waiting for my son to get out of Slime Time Live (he was a contestant!!), I chatted with the employee and security guard at the back entrance by Hard Rock Cafe and got a few bits of information from them. They told me Kong had closed because they couldn't get the parts to repair him anymore. They had been told that an indoor rollar coaster will be going in there with the theme of "The Mummy Returns" and "The Scorpion King." They also informed me that Universal is known to lie to them as well though so not to put any money down on that fact.

There is a coaster already at USF -- Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster. OK, so it isn't the Hulk... :)

I think USF could use a coaster, but not too many.

Are the old Kong trams being removed? (Or maybe just being re-modeled for the new show?)
I'll vote for the RnRC type ride!
And I swear it won't ruin USF!!

If they're going with a coaster, they should do it right... which ultimately means NOT like the RnRC. If they do it, it needs to be a revolutionary coaster that is capable of displaying intricate theming and coherent story line while providing a one of a kind thrill. I don't think USF is simply going to lean back on something that's been done before, whatever it is is going to be fresh.

Fresh? 1920's Egypt? I'm glad you guys know it all.
I'd think a successful movie studio could come up with whatever they like.
Of, course, they'll need approval from a few people here I reckon.
Jim

Where would a 90's New York Tram fit in a 1928 Egypt ride? In addition, how does an Egyptian Themed ride fit in the New York area of Universal?

The tram is not a 90's tram...and Egypt in 1928 is not considered "ancient" which is when the movie was set...if you're going to have an arguement or debate, you would be more credible if you weren't throwing random dates and times out there...that aren't related to what you're talking about. The key to a good arguement is to present factual information. ;)

The fact is, nobody (outside of the "powers that be" ) KNOWS what is going there yet, there has just been alot of speculation...

I'm sure, if left up to them, they'll put in something amazing, but they might not have the option or the funding right now to do it, so they'll do the best they can, I'm sure...

As for how does it fit in...all I can say is Twister. ;)

I didn't see either movie, but didn't they start off in NY and travel back in time to Ancient Egypt or something along those lines? Like I said, I didn't see them, but I thought I read this before when this discussion came up. That would be a good segway/tie in to the NY theme, I would think.

look at the placement of MIB. that movie takes place in NY, but it's right next to Amity. :p and the rollercoaster speculation is what's being said, and supposedly the same company that built hulk and dragons is gonna build the coaster inside the kong building.

I agree with nWo_Thunder that if they aren't careful with what they put in Kong's place, it could change the whole "feel" of Universal Studios.
I like thinking of IOA as the thrill place and US as the Ride the Movies place. Now, if the rumered coaster has The Mummy theme, it would fit in with Ride the Movies, but there hopefully will be more of an attraction part along with it instead of just a thrill ride with Mummy background theming. Just my two cents.

MIB is in the World's Fair section... which Universe and You is an exhibit that is the front for the MIB headquarters. So, it does fit...

So again where does Twister fit into NY? What about the Monster Cafe? Nickalodean? Woody Woodpecker? Alfred Hitchcock? Animal Actors? What sections do they fit into?

Oh btw didn't Earl say it wasn't going to be the Mummy? Remember there is no mummy sequal planned for 2004 yet either. That was another hint droped in the last interview about the upcoming attraction.

Not that I am "in the know" but being the betting man that I am I would assume the museum facade will stay. That some how there will be a mummy exhibit that you are viewing(a la MiB) when of course, something goes wrong. You are escorted into some type of coaster hybrid vehicle that will aid in your escape from Imhotep. So in theory the NY museum idea could work, hell as long as you have a decent enough story almost anything can fit anywhere. Universal did not disappoint us with IOA or MiB so I have complete faith in the creative team. :D

Twister though...I dunno. Just another unsolved mystery(que music)

Changing my vote now... hope they put a tea-cup ride in Kong's place.
And I'd like to see a Power Puff Girls theme.
