The title says it all really. I am curious how the availability is at Kona for walk ups at lunch time, between 12-1pm. Our flight arrives at Orlando really early, and I anticipate being at the Polynesian by around 11-12pm. We won't be able to check in until 4 so I was thinking about Kona Cafe for lunch while we wait for our room, but due to things being somewhat uncertain on our arrival day, I don't want to make a lunch time reservation.

I've seen Kona take people who do not have ADRs for breakfast and lunch. I can't say the same about dinner.
But I would agree that you shouldn't make an ADR on your arrival day.
Worst case is that they have no tables and you end up eatting at Captain Cook's. You can even eat outside and take in all of the Poly atmosphere.

I've eaten their twice for lunch and both times were walk up. WU is always a better chance in the resorts but not promised. I have done exactly what you are planning to do w/o issue. You might have to wait 15 min.

you can always try to make an ADR from your phone once you land... I think that once you're on the ground on Orlando and have your stuff there is less that can go wrong... not NOTHING but if you give yourself enough time you should be ok.

We walked up in August for a lunch. Arrived around 11-ish or so and were told we could get a lunch seating, which is what we wanted. So we walked around and came back at noon and got seated. We were a party of 3. And the place was half empty.

You can check the ADR system to see if a lot of time slots come up for that day to see how booked up they are. Maybe check once a month leading up to your trip (I assume is in Nov) to see if things book up by then.

We will likely do this.
