Kona vs O'Hana - What is the difference?

I was looking through the Poly thread and was thinking Kona was a little place you could drop in for breakfast on the way out- like the hotel coffee shop. I love real 100% Kona coffee. Then I read this thread and someone said they made a reservation there. Am I thinking too much like DLRer to think you can drop in anywhere at WDW without planning it 6 months in advance? :rotfl: Or can you just drop by?

We've walked in and gotten a seat at Kona fairly quickly a couple of times. Fairly easy at lunch, but we've done it for breakfast too. If it is too busy the morining you pop in, you can still get a great cup of Kona at the little walk up stand in the lobby!

If you decide the night before you want breakfast there, you can probably get a reservation fairly easily.

We like them both. Ohana is served family style, they bring lots of food to the table...so go hungry. They have entertainment and the atmosphere is more related to Hawaii. Kona is more laid back, you order from the menu. We really like breakfast and lunch at Kona, prefer dinner from Ohana over breakfast. Food is outstanding at both, IMO.

It is not like a normal hotel coffee shop where you can just drop in for breakfast. None of the resort restauarnats at WDW are like that. They all take ADR's 6 months in advance and none hold tables for hotel guests. Some are more popular than others. Kona is one of the popular breakfast restaurants. Folks come from all over to eat here. If you want to insure breakfast, it is best to make an ADR.
If you want to eat at an off time, late for example, depending on the time of year, you may get in.
Good Luck

We ate at both Ohana and Kona just 1 week ago so my report is very fresh. I will probably never go to Ohana again. I have done both free dining and OOP and the service both times was horrible. The attitude is get you in and out as soon as we can. When I said we would like to enjoy the food after the fireworks this was ignored and food just kept coming. I think the food is hyped up with the exception of the dessert it is amazing. Kona on the other hand was incredible. The food was incredible and the service was excellent. Our waitress overheard us talking about DS bday coming up and brought out a cupcake! The restraunt was no loud even on Super Bowl sunday with the game playing. I will always hands down recommend Kona over Ohana!!!

Thanks for the review! Going to keep our Kona ADR :thumbsup2
