what is the differeance between the kona's tonga toast and the one at the counter service resturant? I am debating if i should save that ADR for someplace different and just get the tonga toast at counter service or is it somehow different at konas? tnks

I've not been to either but have been researching a lot on the DIS for my Nov. trip - when I'll have Tonga Toast for the first time!

According to what I've read on the DIS, there is no strawberry compote available at Captain Cooks CS. Some say the compote makes the Tonga Toast, others disagree & say it can do without.

Another person posted that the TT at Captain Cooks seemed pre-made, like it had been sitting awhile, and the crispy cinnamon sugar coating was mushy. I guess I can see how that could happen at a CS, they might make some ahead during the busy breakfast hours maybe?

Someone else reported that they love their TT grilled, not fried, and you cannot special order it that way at Captain Cooks, only at Kona.

I have a ressie at Kona & it's one of the highlights of my trip! (Sad but true).

we had tt last trip at CC - as per board discussions it is the same. After CC we did not feel it was worth a TS (Kona visit) but there are a lot of others out there who disagree so it's up to you I guess ....

The Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's may be ordered by itself or with meat (bacon or sausage). Either way, it comes with maple syrup and no jelly or jam. I think it's delicious. The Tonga Toast at Kona is pretty much the same but may be ordered as a platter with eggs and meat. I believe at Kona, the jelly or jam comes with the order. The difference in taste that others have noted may be due to the amount of time an order is made until the time it's served. Otherwise, they appear to be identical.

ME and DW went to CC last year for the Tonga Toast and Liked it so much we went later in the week for another. This year we plan on going at least one again. The outdoor seating at CC is realy beautify you would't get that at Kona and I don't think I would waste a TS on something I could get for a CS. But we have been to Kona several times and the dinners and desserts are great. :cool1::hippie:

I have had it at Kona and it's good. Now I never had it at Captain but if it's the same thing and that's all you want I wouldn't waste a TB for it then.

Tasted the same at both places (at Captain Cook's it was so freshly made and hot that I could not touch it for several minutes).

If the TT is the same at both Kona and CC but CC doesn't have strawberry compote then the choice is this: do you want some really good french toast or do you want some really good french toast served with the most delicious condiment ever created in the history of condiments?

Eating TT without strawberry compote is like breathing without air. There's no way I would get TT at CC. I literally drank the remaining compote from the little serving cup when I was done with the meal. I wish I had some right now.

Thanks guys for ruining my day by reminding me that I can't have strawberry compote today!

But back to your question. You can always get an ADR (although for breakfast you may not need one) for Kona but pay cash (or whatever) instead of your dining plan. It's relatively cheap. Save your TS for a nice dinner somewhere to get more bang for your buck.
