Thanks everyone who replied to my post. I took all your opinions, and ordered both the Tonga Toast and Pineapple Macadamian Nut pancakes. Also, I had a pot of Kona Press Pot coffee, a Mimosa, and DD had a strawberry banana smoothie. She tried both the french toast and pancakes... (they had pieces of nuts, and she for some reason has decided recently she does not like nuts). She also ate the bacon from both meals.... (can you say SODIUM?)
Our ADR was for 10:30, we arrived about 10:05, and parked in valet... no JESSIE today - he's the "hunky (in my opinion) valet attendant that I hope to see each time I pull up to the Poly, and I actually had to WAIT for someone to come to my car.... not sure what the one gentleman was thinking just standing there, but this has never happened before at Polys valet to me! We proceeded upstairs and checked in at 10:13. They asked if we would give them 5 minutes... no problem we wanted to go the the gift shop (even though were not on vacation... we still like to shop!) We were barely in the shop, when we were beaconed by the flashing vibrating contraption!
We were quickley seated, and then...... we waited..... servers walked by, the lady with the little pad that keeps track of the tables walked by, more servers walked by... but no one stopped at our table... I looked at the paper they left with us... it stated 'Not assigned to any station" - now I've never worked as a server, but that sure sounded to me like our table was not assigned to ANY one. I stopped the lady with the little pad thing, and she quickly went and found our server. "I am so sorry for your wait, they asked me to cover this table and I forgot!) Okay - I forgive you, I want my Tonga Toast.
Our beverages were brought promptly, and our food followed shortly after. We were brought extra plates as I said we were going to share! Gave DD the bacon, and a pancake, and a few pieces of Tonga Toast. I think took a 1/2 pancake and about 1/2 of the Tonga for my plate. They were both to die for. The Tonga Toast really stands on it's own - does not need syrup. It is very rich and very sweet! It is a pretty large piece of "french toast" for as rich as it is! The pancakes came with three BIG pancakes and a large scoop of macadamia nut butter mixed with pineapple sauce. (Again can you say RICH?) The pancakes contained small bits of macadamia nuts. I used only this "sauce" on my pancake.
The pressed pot of coffee was heavenly. I love coffee, but am no expert, but this had to be one of the best tasting cups of coffee I have ever had. I might have to get "me" on of those contraptions. DD liked her smoothie, and of course the Mimosa was good. They always make it feel like a special occasion!
I enjoyed the relaxed atmospehere of Kona. I LOVE character breakfasts, but this was just a nice relaxing time for DD and I to chat about "whatever" she wanted to chat about.... Maybe due to the later ADR, but the restaurant was not jammed packed which again was nice.
In all the meal was a little pricey for a Saturday morning breakfast adventure.... but 1/2 was the beverages. The total was $39 and some change, with my 20% DDE discount it was not quite so bad.... . (Not to mention the $$$ we spent in the gift shop!) Tara also had fun trading pins with the CMs in the stores.
We then watched the Hawaiian (Polynesian?) dancers practice downstairs. We had seen them perform one other Saturday were were there for breakfast at Ohanas, and they are enjoyable to watch. I love that there are young children to older (senior) aged woman of all sizes dancing! It really is a wonderful art form!
After we were done exploring the Poly for the day... making us anticipate our one night stay there in October..... we were off to play mini golf at Fantasia.
Here are some photos!
