Kona or Spoodles?

Okay, guys. We leave for Orlando in less than 2 weeks, and have a new dilemma! I'm traveling with my hubby and mom, and we've had our ADRs mapped out for MONTHS. Anyway, mom noticed a newly updated dinner menu for Kona Cafe on Allearsnet.com, and is upset because her fave entree (the filet) AND her fave dessert (macadamia nut tart) are no longer on the menu. So now we're trying to QUICKLY decide whether to try something else rather than go to Kona.

We've never tried Spoodles, and have seen some yummy looking photos on these boards but have also seen some not-so-good reviews. Help! What are your thoughts on Spoodles v. Kona? Any other suggestions?

We'll already be eating at Chefs de France, Le Cellier, O'Hana, Tutto Italia, Cape May Cafe and Artist Point.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

I wish I could tell you more about Spoodles but at least this will bump it to the top again. I just wanted to commiserate with your mom about the Kona losing the filet. They are supposed to have a New York Strip which is good too.

Anyway, in a recent review I saw about Spoodles (in one of the dining reviews), it looked very good! I think it is worth a try. You will find many different opinions. I have never let a bad review keep me from a TS restaurant ... Hope you have a wonderful time! :thumbsup2

I can't say enough about Spoodles. The appetizers alone are worth a trip. The mussels are the best we've ever had and there are several excellent entrees that we had last trip - Shrimp Linguine and the Red Snapper. The Sangria is also very good. This is our favorite 1TS restaurant in all of WDW.:thumbsup2

On the other hand we are definitely in the minority with our opinion of KONA. The past two trips KONA was the worst meal of our entire trip - food, service and ambiance all horrible.:sad2:

Here's a link to my dining review from last Nov/Dec:

Spoodles is one of my favorite restaurants on property! I love the pita bread w/ mediterranean dips! And the lemon shrimp pasta is soooo yummy! One trip to Kona was enough for us. The food was good, but not great. The service was just ok. But Spoodles has always been spot on for food quality and service for us. Can't wait to go back in March!

I'm a big fan of trying something new - why keep returning to the same spots when there are more great ones to be discovered?

Give Spoodles a go - we had a GREAT meal there last year and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the Boardwalk. It makes for a fun relaxing evening.

Another vote for Spoodles. In 12/07 we did both it and Kona. We found Kona to be crowded and the Poly lobby was very LOUD!!! Not our favorite meal.

Spoodles, on the other hand, was nearly empty for breakfast when we ate there. They allowed our party to linger over our yummy flatbread and coffee and we never felt rushed. We were staying at the BW so it was also super convenient!

:cool1: :hippie: We are going to Spoodles this Sept. and leaving out Kona which we do enjoy, but looking to try someplace different.

We just tried Spoodles in July for the first time and LOVED it!!! Like a previous poster siad the appetizers are wonderful. I had the chef's special of the day, Lobster and Shrimp Ravioli and it was fantastic. We love Kona, but between the two, I'd definately go to Spoodles...:goodvibes

We enjoyed Spoodles. I would give it a try. :thumbsup2 The food and service were both great. We also liked walking around the Boardwalk.

Spoodles is awesome! We ate there in June, pics in my signature, and we loved our pasta dishes. I do not care for the dessert choices but the apps and entrees are fantastic!

Kona is great too but we can get steak anywhere!

We've always enjoyed Spoodles and have an ADR there for our December trip. The appetizers are great to share and the entrees have always been good. The oak fired kebob is wonderful - we order with no harissa since that is too spicy for us. DD swears the cheese flatbread appetizer is her favorite food anywhere! Can't compare to Kona as we haven't eaten there yet. It is on our list of ADR's for December mostly because DD has an objective of eating at every restaurant at WDW. So we are eating there prior to an evening planned for the MK.

We have ADRs for both. I'm excited to read all the raves about Spoodles because it was a recent addition to our plans. We have the deluxe for one night, then the basic for the remaining (split stay) and the only dinner we have planned with the deluxe is Spoodles. That's the only meal we'll probably order appetizers from and sounds like they are great!
