I have reservations at "Ohana but I am contemplating switching to Kona for dinner. We have a 3 year old and a 7 year old. I feel like we are doing some many character and kitzy places that I might want to switch. Strictly on a food basis, which is better?

KONA! Ohana was okay, but I wouldn't rush back anytime soon. Kona was awesome. It's not the best service, but the food is really really good. And they have no problem letting you switch around different items for kids meals. Just our opinion - we ate there 3 times for dinner in September and each night rocked food wise. Again, service is another thing....but you get that anywhere.

Kona's food is much better but if I had children, I'd take them to 'Ohana for dinner instead.

Strictly on the food... Kona! I usually do recommend 'Ohana with kids though. But we always do both.

Kona, but with kids I would say O'Hana, thats a tough one....but strictly on food Kona is better

I'm too much of a tightwad to pony up for Kohna's.

Ohana's is one of my favorites. Chicken wings, shrimp, and meat on a stick. I think they have vegetables too but I'm not sure. Some people love the bread pudding they server for dessert, but I always pass on that. I eat too much meat there anyways.

Kona is leaps and bounds better when refering to food quality. Ohana is a great restaurant and the food is good, just not exceptional. We take our kids (2 & 5) to Kona every trip and it is fine. Parents need a treat once in a while too.

We love both but I give the edge to Kona because the bread is better, the salad is better, the wings are better.

But the dessert at Ohana is better than anything else!

Falling in line with what others have suggested, I'd say 'Ohana for dinner since you have kids. It's a fun place for kids at dinner time. Their menu changed a while back, potatoes are no longer offered. They have stir-fry noodles now. They brought back the shrimp on the skewers - for a while, the shrimp was being served as side/appetizers. Oh...and they did bring back the coconut bread as the "welcome bread". Although I didn't eat much of it, the potatoes were good. I heard that the chefs eliminated it from the menu as a way to remove the trans fats.

While I haven't had Kona for dinner, I do enjoy the lunch. Our tradition is that on our first day, upon arrival at WDW, our first stop is Kona. Then on our departure day, Kona is last stop. Someone else mentioned, their service is not exceptional, but the food is great.

Either way...enjoy!

We have been going back and forth on this one, too. We were booked for Kona, but they recently changed their menu, too, and removed the item that DH would order. I don't think they have anything else he would really enjoy, so we are going to try Ohana. Hoping for the best.

Just as a side note to previous posters indicating the "fun" at Ohana for kids. They only have characters and parades and kid's activities for breakfast, which I HIGHLY recommend.

The dinner options, my kids wouldn't eat at all and they are not super pickey eaters. I personally did not like the food at Dinner @ Ohana either, but the breakfast is GREAT!

They do NOT have characters for Dinner. So if you're looking for the best experience for kids at Breakfast, I'd say definitely Ohana, but for everything else, Kona!

Not exactly. They have hula hoop contests and coconut races for children during dinner, and the waiter can get a kids meal from Kona if your child doesn't like the 'Ohana offerings. It's very loud, family friendly, and fun plus it overlooks the lagoon and castle (can see Wishes at night). As a child, I would have been bummed to hear the excitement at 'Ohana next door while I was eating at a hotel lobby restaurant.

As an adult, I'd rather eat at the hotel lobby restaurant and skip the loud kids activities =)

Trying to decide between Ohana and Kona myself for my anniversary trip in May. I was originally thinking of Ohana because the atmosphere sounded fun and it sounded as though it was a lot of good food. Looking over the menu at both, I think I'm still going to side with Ohana. Any meat on a stick has to be good. ;)

When we went last year, there were none of those activities during our wait or meal:confused3 As far as having a view of the castle or fireworks there are a lot of tables that have absoloutely no view. Even some of the tables in the "main" area, near windows have no view of MK or the castle.

My kids did eat off the kids menu and they had no dipping sauce for the chicken (had to go to Kona to get a side of ranch) and the mac and cheese was not very good either. Just my opinion, but if I have to go to Kona for a kids meal, why would I eat at Ohana?

I know, I was opting to eat the kids menu rather than our food. The meats were all incredibly dry and I couldn't even eat them.

Again, this is just our experience, but I can tell you I wouldn't return for dinner, but wouldn't miss the breakfast!
