Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow is my 180 day mark for reservations and just finalizing a few things..

We arrive Aug. 21 at Wilderness Lodge. We have an early morning flight which will get us to the lodge well before lunch. We usually like to have a nice lunch on arrival day after traveling since early AM, but I don't like to make a ressie because with airlines and magical express you never know when you will arrive so we hope for a walk up.

I figure we should be able to get into Whispering Canyon for lunch, but was thinkingwe may want to head over to Kona at the Poly (SH really likes this restaurant). Do you think we could get a table without as a walk up without a long wait? I would say we would get there around 12:30 (out plane arrives at 8:30a)

Thanks

Anythings possible....it doesn't hurt to ask. My DH and DFIL went over to Kona Cafe during our March trip last year for lunch,(DMIL, both DDs, and I were having tea at the GF) and they were seated without a ADR. I think you will have a good chance of getting in without an ADR as well. Good luck.

Thanks..I think we may give it a try...as I said I prefer not to make and ADR because you never know...The past few years we stayed at Boardwalk and never had a problem getting into the Big River Brewery, but I figure Kona may be a bit more popular.

Lunchtime in late August should be no problem at all.

But if you're a bit skittish, go ahead and make the reservation. If the crowd is as light as I would expect it to be, it wouldn't matter a bit if you didn't make it for some reason. And at worst, it would just mean anyone waiting gets seated that much sooner.

(If you're concerned that making a reservation might prevent someone else from getting one - Kona would only be "sold out" in the middle of the day at the absolute busiest times of the year - and quite possibly not even then.)

I think lunch is definitely doable as a walk up at Kona. We were there over Christmas and at lunch there was no wait as a walk up.

I agree that it's possible especially during that time of the year. It is a slower time but it really can't hurt to make a late ADR? Why not? You can always cancel, no biggie. Then you can decide when you get there. I didn't think GFC would be busy when we left last week (before the big rush) so we did a walk up and waited a 1/2 hr. Could have made an ADR but I didn't. A 1/2 hr isn't long but on the day you check in you'll be hungry by lunch time.:goodvibes

We just got back from FW and went to WCC on our arrival day for a late lunch. (I did make an ADR and we sat right away). I thought about Kona too, but it seemed more convenient to go to WCC and I really enjoyed the salad I had.:thumbsup2

Yes!

We went to the Poly last Friday and it was dead in Kona for lunch. We've never done lunch there, so we asked the cm if you usually need reservations & she said no, you can almost always walk up & get in. :thumbsup2

We did it two years running at around 12:30-1pm. There were several empty tables. As other posters have pointed out, though, making an ADR is a low-impact investment.
