Kona Island Sushi Bar

I agree that the Kona Sushi bar and Cali Grill are very different... in restaurant style, Kona is a walk up counter and Cali is a up scale sit down restaurant in a league all it's own...that being said of course the sushi at the Kona Sushi bar can't really be "compared" to the sushi at Cali Grill, however I still stand by the sushi being equal in taste, quality and even presentation. I think it was better than "fair". It was very fresh, not fishy tasting, made to order...those are all the qualities I look for in my sushi. And the sushi at Kona was less expensive and I could take it back to my room and enjoy it with a Mai Tai...that made it even BETTER in my book!

Sure am glad I already ate lunch. It's Tuesday and the cafe in our buidling has a sushi chef come in on Tuesday's and I told myself I couldn't go get sushi today. Glad I ate the lunch that I brought from home before I read this or I would have gone downstairs!

I love sushi and I sure hope the sushi bar at Kona sticks around for a while. I'd love to try it. You know, I've never actually had any sushi at WDW. I think it's time I try it - but it must be fresh. No refrigerated stuff for me.

Reading this thread has reminded me of a Cali Grill review I recently found. The following sushi pics are absolutely mouth-watering!!

Anyone know if the sushi is available as a CS credit?

Anyone know if the sushi is available as a CS credit?

That was going to be my next question. I think that would be a great way for us to end our trip. Hit up the Poly on the way out. We might have 2 CS credits left each. That's double the sushi if they take CS credits. Yum!

Here is a copy of what they offer at the sushi bar...

Sashimi - salmon tuna and chef's choice $13.99
California Luau Roll - fresh jumbo lump crab, pineapple, and avocado $12.99
Volcano Roll - spicy tuna, shrimp salad, tempura crunch $12.99
Shrimp Tempura Roll -tempura shrimp, fresh mango served w/ lilikoi sauce $9.99
Tuna Poke - traditional Hawaiian poke salad $10.99
Kona Crab Cake Roll - fresh jumbo lump crab cake, avocado, and an Asian tartar sauce $10.99
Kona Combo Plate - luau California roll, salmon sashimi, tuna poke $13.99

A nice variety and they display samples in the glass case so you can see what it will look like...but it is made fresh.:yay:

The bartender at Tambu told us last Dec that his girlfriend Jasmine was going to work at the new Kona suishi bar and that she was training with Yoshi. Hadn't heard anything about this since then so it's great to hear that it's now open.

Can anyone confirm or deny that it is a CS credit on the DP or not? Thanks

I would like to know for sure as well. Maybe someone who's staying at the Poly soon or visiting Kona Cafe could swing by and check it out for us. I sure hope they take DDP because we've got it worked into our schedule.

My next trip is not until December - so I hope the Sushi Bar is still there!!
I just love, love, love the idea of being able to grab a quick bite each day during our stay at the Poly, without having to wait in line at Capt Cooks.
:woohoo:

Just keep in mind that it only operates in the evening as it is a coffee bar in the day time.

I'm so glad this info was posted! Can't wait to try it in a few weeks! The menu posted by a PP looks wonderful!

We just returned and had dinner at Kona. I booked Kona because of this thread so my DH could try the sushi. Three out of the six of us ordered sushi as an appetizer and they all said it was great. (I'll take their word for it.) We were not on DP this trip, but will be next trip, so I asked afterwards at the counter and the guy said he thinks you can order it as an entree if you are on DXDP. He didn't seem too sure of himself though and I thought the answer was a little strange. If it is entree why would you need DXDP? Anyway, that was my experience. Anyone have any success getting this on DP?

does anyone know what time it switches over from coffee to sushi would love to get some for lunch around the pool
