Kona for breakfast? What's your opinion?

We make a special trip to stop there on our way to MK from BC.

It's really good, Toga Toast, Big Kahuna.. it's all delicious, and at a very beautiful and fun resort for us to visit.

Also, it's a place that's a must-do for us for dinner. We really enjoy the Kona Cafe food, setting and location.

Have fun!

:goodvibes

We go every trip. We split a Tonga Toast and a fruit platter. Plenty of food for the two of us and we love Tonga Toast.

We went for our first breakfast there on our trip last month, and I'll say that it is now my favorite breakfast (DW loved it too). In fact once we got home I made and ADR for breakfast for our trip coming up later this month.

Kona is our favorite place for breakfast. We often swing by there after dropping friends off at the airport before spending a few hours at the Magic Kingdom. We're spending three nights this coming weel and breakfast will be a Kona at least one morning.

Is the breakfast at Kona better than at Ohana's?
Debating switching my choice since Kona gets such rave reviews. Maybe I can fit in both! lol

Tonga Toast is foul. Blech. I get queasy just thinking about it.

The Big Kahuna is legendary for me. Easily one of the top 5 breakfast plates I've ever had.

Amazing coffee-- there is nothing like a French pressed pot of kona.

Don't do bananas so Tonga Toast is a no go for me. But their Eggs Benedict are to die for. I could live on that Hollandise sauce.

We book Kona as our arrival breakfast. We like the relaxed atmosphere after being on the road for 7 hours. Plus, as previous poster already showed us, they have the Big Kahuna and the press pot Kona coffee which I love. Lots of food. :P

For us, it is a must do every trip. My sister loves the Tonga Toast. I like just about everything else. :thumbsup2 And we all really just love the look and feel of the Poly resort. We have stayed there one time, and would love to have the funds to stay there again. So this way we get our Poly fix and my sis gets her banana toast.:)

I am allergic to strawberries, and on a recent trip a CM recommended the crushed pineapple on top of the Tonga Toast. AMAZING! Thank you again Kona was wonderful food. CM's are great as well ;)

I went in April. Here is my dining review:

Sunday, April 17--Kona Breakfast
So I woke the family up BRIGHT and EARLY @ 6:30am. We had an 8:50ADR for the Kona Cafe and we had to make it from Boardwalk to Magic Kingdom and then hop the monorail to the Poly. I knew we needed to leave by 7:30. So dutifully my family was out the door by 7:30 and we went to the bus stop. We hopped a bus within 4 minutes and was to the Magic Kingdom by 7:50. We got to Kona at 8:18 and I figured with it being Easter week, we'd have to wait. (As a side note..we were early to EVERY ADR and never had to wait more that 5 minutes..and sometimes we were an hour early.)

We were seated and I was vibrating with ecstasy in my chair. All I could think was Tonga Toast. Tonga Toast. The rest of my family isn't into breakfast, and therefore my husband and I were paying out of pocket for the entire family to eat here. He LOVES breakfast and I LOVE Tonga Toast...how could we go wrong?!

Me and my mother---Tonga Toast. Delicious...the strawberry compote cuts the sweetness just enough. It gives it a tart, delicious flavor. I also had the liliki(sp) juice. For me...tooo tart/sweet. I would have liked a bit less of it. The banana stuffed french toast was divine. The ham I had really complemented it.

DH--He had a ham and cheese omelet with bacon(ick), biscuit and coffee.

DS--The Somoan - poached eggs with Hollandaise served over smoked pulled pork hash. She didn't love it. She said it lacked flavor. She claimed the pulled pork needed sauce or something. She was underwhelmed. She had coffee.

DNephew---He had chocolate chip pancakes(not on the menu but they did it for him). His gripe....too chocolate-y! Um seriously...are you even my nephew? How can something have too much chocolate?

DNiece had the Kid's fruit and yogurt plate. I was underwhelmed with this. The fruit looked good, but didn't taste too great. Well the strawberries were good.

The Good---

All hail Tonga Toast...I love thee

The Bad---
the Samoan...a big let down

The Ugly---

my family for me waking them up so early! hahhahahaha

We love the Kona Cafe for breakfast. The coffee is good, the service is usually great and the food is always on point.

I also agree the Big Kahuna is a great dish if you want a little bit of everything. Eggs and omletes are cooked well. I also agree that breakfast meat in general at WDW is bad-they cannot make a tasty sausage in FL or what?

Kona is a great breakfast - the portions are huge so unless you are splitiing a meal - I wouldn't book any ADR's for lunch.

IMO, Kona has the best breakfast in WDW. We eat there every trip.

We really enjoyed it. We went specifically so DH could get Tonga Toast, plus we celebrated our wedding anniversary there since we had gone to Hawaii for our honeymoon.

We all loved our breakfast, DD loved the smoothie and DH and I loved the Wasabi Bloody Mary! :rotfl:

Love Kona for Breakfast! Our first experience was in May, the coffee alone was worth it! My mom and I split the Big Kahuna and we were truly full until lunch! We were on DDP so we used a TS and it was well worth it! DD7 loved the pancakes and sausage!

We typically don't bother with breakfast at Disney - except for one day - Kona Cafe!!!!! It's a MUST-DO!

Macadamia Nut Pancakes and a French Press Pot of 100% Kona Coffee = YUM!

We just did this last month.

This time I think dh had the steak and eggs. I had 2 eggs, sausage and blueberry pancakes. We also got the fruit in the pineapple to share. It was huge and so good. It came with a mini loaf of banana bread that was cut in two. We found that the bread was a little too dry for our liking. Dh loves the press pot coffee and I love the lilokoi (sp?) juice.

We have also had the Big Kahuna in the past too. Dh also loves the pineapple pancakes. We also have gotten the bowl of fruit to share.
