We're always looking for somewhere new to dine. Kona Cafe is one that looks good, even though we aren't staying at Poly. Is it worth a trip over there?

:wizard: Kona Cafe is definitely worth the trip over to the Polynesian. We have gone there on our last 2 trips and already have our ADR for our August trip. The food is excellent. And either before or after dinner, it's great to walk around the grounds of the Polynesian. :smickey:

I agree:thumbsup2 ....Kona never has never disappointed us! Tambu Lounge is a nice place for a drink too!

It is wonderful! Word has gotten out about this great place to eat. I had the Mahi Mahi and DH had the steak. Crabcake appetizers were excellent and desserts the best we've had in WDW. Service was perfect and they were so nice to my children. Kids food is standard. Cannot wait until we are back mid Sept. that was my first must do ADR. Don't think you will be disappointed!

This restaurant is awesome! :thumbsup2 It is a "must do" on our favorites list every time we go.

Yes! It would be worth it if it were sitting in an empty field. Getting to visit the Polynesian as well makes it a no-brainer!

A must for every trip. You seldom hear anything bad about Kona. They seem to stay consistent in terms of good food and good service. This is my kids' favorite place to dine.

For breakfast = no.
For dinner = YES

We trekked over for breakfast one morning because we heard such good things about it. We found it to be a waste of time, really. It's typical breakfast food except for the tonga toast which was revolting (IMO, of course). The rest was pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc.

But dinner is different; they have some really unusual dishes and it honestly was our best meal of our last trip - all 6 adults loved every course we ordered. If you are doing a day at the MK, this is a great place to have a meal at since it's just on the monorail line.

Eating at the Poly is always a nice treat. But for us, Kona was only ok. It wasn't great. The apps were yummy and the desserts were delish. But the main courses were just ok. And the service was less than good.

I am going next trip.. plus it is easy to get to once you are at MK.. just hop the Monorail over to it

Absolutely!

And I say worth it for breakfast too....the Tonga Toast alone is worth a trip from anywhere on property, IMHO. The pineapple macedamia pancakes, too. :)

I've made ADRs for Kona Cafe for our trip in December. I've seen pictures of and read so many good things about the tonga toast that i just have to try it!!! :cutie:

We love Kona--the Mahi-Mahi and crabcakes are a fav. We always get a french pressed coffee with one of the wonderful desserts. Give it a try!

We haven't missed this restaurant once since 1996. It's included at least once on every trip!

Tonga Toast and French Press coffee. It just doesn't get any better than that! :thumbsup2

We loved Kona Cafe. I would definitely make a trip there again.

Yum! We went there last trip and it was one of our favorite meals. I had the Beef Teriyaki and it was amazing. DH had prime rib (I am 99% sure) and thought it was top notch. :)

As previously stated,
Breakfast>>no
Lunch or Dinner >>YES!
Most of the breakfast menu is only slightly better than food court fare. What is better/different is very, very sweet.
Lunch and supper both offer some very original and quite tasty dishes!

We stated at the Poly and ate lunch at the Kona Cafe 3 or 4 days, mostly because it was convenient. It was quite good.

We also had room service for breakfast, which comes from the Kona, and it was standard breakfast fare and very well prepared. I had Tonga toast one morning, and I have to say, it's not what it used to be. It's much much smaller and didn't taste quite the same.

Dinner from room service was also quite good.

We never tried to go there for dinner because we had reservations other restaurants (CG, Citricos, YSH, Narcoossees).
