I made our ADRs for our trip in August this morning for the following:

8/23 - Coral Reef dinner
8/24 - Kona Cafe dinner
8/25 - Chefs de France dinner
8/26 - Le Cellier dinner
8/27 - Tony's Town Square dinner

We're pretty happy with all of our choices, but Kona Cafe was a sort of last minute addition. After talking to my boss and her husband today (we work in a Disney-related profession and are all a bunch of WDW/Disneyland freaks) they suggested Boma for one of our dinners. Now I'm wondering if we should switch Kona Cafe for Boma. Opinions? We've never eaten at either restaurant, FYI.

We have eaten at both, and we prefer Kona for dinner (and love it for b'fast too!). It has a nice, quiet, elegant atmosphere, and the food is delicious. Boma is loud, kind of crazy, lots of kids, etc. The food is "unique", but it's hard for us to eat a unique buffet if that makes sense. Plus, buffets aren't our thing I guess. It is a fun experience, and afterwards you can walk around outside and see the animals around the pool area. But, at Kona, you are at the Poly, and it just doesn't get much better than that for us if we aren't staying there.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I want to be at the Poly rather than AKL. Good to know about the atmospheres of each restaurant too.. sometimes that's as important as the quality of the food! We'll be spending that entire day at MK, so it'll be nice to have a relaxing meal in the evening. Thanks for your input! I think Boma will be a must-do for our next trip. :)

We just ate at Kona last week and it was excellent. They have a great menu, and prices are reasonable for WDW restaurants. I've never eaten at Boma, but I would highly recommend Kona.

Can you see Wishes from the Kona ???

You cannot see Wishes from Kona Cafe -- that's 'Ohana which has a ceiling-to-floor window facing MK.

Kona and Boma are two of our favorites.

Boma of course is a buffet and probably the best buffet at WDW. The food is more adventurous than at other buffets in the sense of African dishes and the use of curry -- if that sounds interesting to you then you ought to give it a try. The dining room is always full. The noise level isn't too bad considering, but it is neither quiet nor peaceful.

Kona is not as pretentious or expensive as many other menu restaurants at WDW, but the food quality and preparation are excellent. It could well be the best meal of the five for you. It takes a hit for atmosphere as it's a coffee shop type of atmosphere, open-air on the second floor of the Polynesian lobby. It's not actually noisy itself, but the people nearby waiting to be seated at 'Ohana next door ARE noisy. It has the advantage that you get to visit the Polynesian resort, which I never tire of.

Personally I would not change.

Thanks for the advice.. though this thread is from last year! :rotfl: We did stick with Kona, FYI.

I've booked Kona for dinner on our first night. After doing some research a couple years ago...I thought I read you could view wishes from the beaches at Poly...is that not true?

Erikthewise lives up to his name. As another fan of both Boma and Kona, ITA with him.

Yes, the Poly beach is a nice place to view Wishes.

What a releif:goodvibes I started to panic when I read the post above about not being able to see Wishes from Kona... I just put two and two together and didn't figure in...Kona and the beach at Poly are in diffrent places...meaning Kona is inside Poly...where as the beach is not:goodvibes Anywho...THANK YOU for the :thumbsup2 NOW...could you let me in on where you think would be the best place at beaches at Poly to see them? Keep in mind I've NEVER ever been to Poly before...so I don't know my way around AT ALL;)
