We are wondering about whether you can take out food at dinner time from Kona. We will be staying at the PoLy early December and find that not doing too many sit down meals with our 2 little ones is best for us. But we would really like to try some of the items at Kona Cafe, including dessert while picking up a couple of things from Capt Cooks for the kids, so we could all eat in the room.

Any ideas? What if we ordered by phone and picked it? Anybody out there do this?

I have gotten take out from Kona in the past. We went in and ordered and my GD wasn't feeling well, :guilty: so they made our order to go. You can also get room service-I am 99% sure it comes from Kona.

One of the reasons I love Poly so much, are the dining options and being able to eat by the pool or in the room, where kids can be kids after a day in the parks. My GD hardly ever eats in the restaurant, but pigs out in the room or sitting by the pool. She just seems more relaxed. And I mean PIGS out :rotfl:

Thanks Grammy of 2, I did check out the room service menu on AllEars but did not see some of the dishes we were interested in, so I was really hoping to be able to take it out directly from Kona. I will certainly ask while we are there. We do have ADR's for Ohana's which I thought would be more interesting for my 2 kids. Looking forward to our 1st stay at the Poly.

We do this all the time. Sometimes DD has to have a grilled cheese for lunch while hanging out at the pool. Since Cap'n Cooks doesn't have grilled cheese I run upstairs and get it. We also get dinners to go when we want something in our room that roomservice doesn't do. We did this when we went in October with no problem.

It's great to know that Kona Cafe has takeout! We love that restaurant! :goodvibes

However, you can not call ahead and order. You must go to the restaurant, place an order and wait.

Grammyof2, for years I thought room service came from the large area behind Kona too. I believe it actually comes from the kitchen where Tangaroa Terrace used to be. But room service is great at the Polynesian.

DJMommy, you might want to try eating at Kona with your family. The food will taste better and fresher and you could always order desserts to go as you place your order. That might speed things up but we always find Kona to be speedy anyway. And if you place your little ones so they can watch the monorail go by, that might help as well. Happy stay at the Polynesian whatever you do. :sunny:

I ordered take out from Kona as well... DH and DD stayed in the room, I placed my order at the "check in" I asked if it was possible, she gave me a menu, I placed my order (chicken wings were/are fantastic!!) she gave me a "buzzer" and I wandered the shops, found out they sold bottles of wine, and they took out the cork free of charge!!

One of our favorite memories!!

Thanks BCV and Eeyore for the details. That will surely help. We were thinking about doing this our first night when I am sure the kids will not want to sit still to eat out, after having sat on the plane for a few hours and all the waiting at the airport. Just trying to make it as stress free on DH and myself. Plus we will be heading to MK after dinner so a quick meal in the room seems like the thing for all of us.

WOW I didn't know you could see the monorail from Kona. Cool. Maybe later in the trip we will try it.

Thanks so much again!!

LOL, sometimes I'm too tired on a travel day to sit still through dinner! ;)

One other thought if you do try it later in your trip. You could give your little ones dinner from CC in the room or around the pool and then take them along to Kona. They could have dessert while you enjoy an entree. They have a huge inverted ice cream cone for kids that could keep them busy. Afterall, it is vacation.
