I presently have ADR for Whispering Canyon for dinner on DDP for August. My co-worker ate there last year and said it was just ok. (When someone you know gives you an opinion, someone it holds more credibility). However, I wanted all the experts' :thumbsup2 opinions here.

I was thinking of switching it to the Kona Cafe - we haven't eaten there (I want some place new) and the dinner menu looks good.

Of those two, which would you choose????????????

Thanks,

Anna

Funny you ask that question... I had the same dilemma when booking an ADR, WCC vs. Kona Cafe vs. Boma.. I put a post out back 2-3 weeks ago, and asked about Kona cafe and I did a poll. Out of some 150 responses, they said it was Good or Great..

We just got back from DW yesterday and I am REALLY glad we opted to go to Kona Cafe ... I had the Mahi-Mahi which was good and my daughter had the "Char Crusted Medallions of Filet Mignon".. OMG, the Filet was MARVELOUS, rated right up close if not as good as Le Cellier steaks we had!!! The deserts also at Kona Cafe were very good.

Kona Cafe, personally, was right up there as the best dining we had with Le Cellier...

Do go for this, you will not regret it.

BTW - My other daughter had the "Beef Teriyaki" which was very good also.. My wife had the "Shrimp and Scallops", the shrimp was good, but they had a real bad topping on the scallops that we personally did not like.. Non the less, the Kona Cafe gets a BIG THUMBS up from my family!!!

Go for it :)

I've never eaten at Kona Cafe, but I've been to Whispering Canyon. The food was pretty good, but my kids had a blast. They hollered for ketchup, had their napkins turned into hats, and had a handful of straws thrown at them by the waiter!
From now on they said we have to go back on every trip! :teeth:

Kona hands down
the place was amazing in dec
the service the atmosphere
the food was the best mea l we had all week
we had the DP and ate at le cellier and a bunch of other great places
and kona was the best
plus visting the poly was nice

I like the Kona Cafe (especially if you can get a window seat), but wouldn't make a special trip to eat there.

Whispering Canyon seems to be slipping a little, but I'd still pick that. :)

:thumbsup2 KONA KONA KONA!

They have the most amazing Prime Rib and their desserts are amazing. Try the banana caramel creme brulee'. Yummmmmmmmmmy!

Kona's -- always a must for every trip. We like WCC for breakfast, but not impressed with the lunch or dinner meals. We are booked at Kona's for 3 ADRs for our trip next week. If you think the food is good, wait until you see the deserts!! wow.

Kona cafe has gourmet style, delicious food at a decent price. However for kids, Whispering Canyon hands down. We take our children to Disney for the "experience" of Disney and WC is pure fun (and the food was good too!).

Looks like I'll be changing to Kona, thanks for all the replies. My kids are 10 and 13 and not into the goofing around anymore, so they won't appreciate the antics. But they do like a good steak, seafood, etc. (Thank God for free dining :) ).

Wow, I'm really surprised that your kids wouldn't prefer the playful atmosphere. IMO the Whispering Canyon is probably one of the best options WDW has available for the older kids. Most pre-teens and teens have lost interest in the character meals, but they still want to be someplace "fun."

If you want fun, go to WCC. If you want good food, go to Kona.

Totally agree. Actually I might even pick Kona over Artist Point, which is has an elegant atmosphere and good food but is badly overpriced. The food at Kona is very good and a much better value.

Kona Cafe!!! We LOVE it there and we had four adults and 4 kids under 5 with us. The service was fabulous--one of the best waitresses we've ever had, Disney or otherwise. The food was fantastic. In our group we had Mahi Mahi, Pan Asian Pasta with Chicken, Beef Teriyaki, and of course kids meals. Everyone raved about all their meals.

We have tried WCC twice, both pre-kids and with young kids and never found it to be anything special. The food was fine, nothing memorable, and both times we got average service and the antics were never really going on when we were there. That's just our experience. Kona cafe we all can still remember what we ate and how good it tasted. We're even planning our next stay at the Poly to be closer to Kona!

No, I can't agree with you on this one! :teeth: I went to both on my last trip and while Kona Cafe is good and has some the BEST food for the 1 Credit Table Service Restaurants, I didn't think it was "up there" with Artist Point. I had a filet mignon at both of these restaurants (for some reason I was on a "beef" kick), and the one at Artist Point was definitely better. Also, considering I got the "special" at Artist Point which came with soup, salad, entree, and dessert, I didn't think it was that much higher in price for what I got. And the Smoky Portabello Mushroom soup was unforgettable.

But I do think that Kona has some of the BEST food at WDW for the 1 credit.

I agree that AP is noticeably better for fine dining at whatever price. I guess I was just put off that our family ate at Kona for around $80 but we spent $125 at AP for a comparable quantity of food. I just didn't think it was THAT much better! :teeth:

BTW I don't have a problem with the food at WCC -- it's fine for what it is, unpretentious western/barbeque-style vittles. It just doesn't match up to Kona. But then not many non-signature restaurants do.

Another vote for Kona. We ate at both last trip. WCC was for lunch so maybe that made the difference as far as all the antics we expected. It was actually quiet and the food like I can get at home from Famous Dave's. We loved Kona...it was a great deal on the dinning plan. The kids were offered any appetizer they wanted, smoothies for their drinks, etc. Our meals were the best of our trip and we ate very well all week. Desserts are also great there and the kids dessert are fun too!

Have dined at both and would recommend WCC over Kona. Thought the food at Kona was just ok and nothing I would run back to. Was very pleased with the food and the service at WCC.
