Kona Cafe - opening and lunch?

I've had trouble keeping up with all of the menu changes at Kona Cafe. Has the restaurant reopened, and did their menu change again over the closure? It looks different from last time I looked at it, but who knows when I last looked at it.

If anyone happens to have eaten there more recently and tried some of the new lunch menu items, I'd love to hear your thoughts (or a link to a review).

We just ate there tonight! I have never seen The Polynesian resort so empty! The menu is exactly what is listed on the WDW site. We had the potstickers, California roll, lobster mac and cheese and the short ribs. Everything except the short ribs was absolutely delicious! The short ribs were very tender but tasted heavily of allspice which we don't prefer on beef! Really our only complaint was our server. She had ZERO personality. No suggestions, no chit chat, nada! And with the restaurant at only 50 % capacity, she certainly had time! We saw servers cleaning and disinfecting each table after the people left.

This may be a good time to spread pixie dust as much as we expect it. :tink:
CMs may be worried about their own home situations now: illness, child care, financial stress, etc... Living locally until recently, it's apparent not every one is feeling optimistic in central FL right now. Probably best for all of us not to expect Disney-level magic from every encounter.

Yeah, expecting people to be "on" in the middle of a pandemic is a bit much.

OP, all of the menu changes are reflected online. Some restaurants were hit harder than others, Kona still has Tonga Toast at breakfast but only the plant-based Loco Moco for instance and not the regular one. It's definitely a good idea to check the menus out online first for ANY restaurant, QS and TS, to see if any old favorites still made the cut or if you want to skip for now.

Thanks for that! I was looking at the online menus, just couldn't remember how drastically it had changed from the previous incarnation I had seen. I won't be going for a while, but was interested in keeping abreast of the changes as it's my fav. The first thing I check for is always Tonga Toast :)

Trust me I feel you on the Tonga Toast, lol. I still plan on going during my September stay just for that, I'm just bummed out about the Loco Moco because it's my other favorite Disney breakfast. Still Kona seemed to fare better than some of the other casual TS resort restaurants. GF Cafe lost the benedict flight and the chicken and waffles.

We ate lunch at Kona Cafe today and it was fine. We couldn't get a reservation, but they seated us, anyway. There were only about 3 groups of diners present, including us. The waitress was very attentive and caring. She happily let us move to a table across the restaurant because a large group near us that included rowdy kids (who were given their own table with their parents' backs to them) was very loud. She really seemed to care about our satisfaction. She was brand new, so she admitted she didn't know much about the food. I'm sure that won't be the case for long, though, as she worked to stay on top of things. The food was typical Disney: not awful, not great. We'd never eaten at Kona before, so can't compare it to the past. It was better than the Captain Cooks we had last night. We left satisfied.
