Hi guys, I don't get to post too much, but I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and was wondering what those who have been to Kona Cafe to lunch enjoy about it - dishes, etc. I've never been there and am thinking of trying it for a break on my MK day. Is it fairly easy to get there? Thanks!

It is very easy to get there. Take the monorail to the Polynesian and it is on the left as you exit the monorail station. I have not been there in about 6 months so you never know what the menu is like, but my favorites are the pot stickers for appetizer, the steak salad or there is a steak and rice dish (not sure what it is actually called) that is great and they have awesome deserts... the Cocoa Puffs are awesome (can't really describe it you would just have to try them.) but they also have a create your own sundae as well as some different chef specials. We usually go there before Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party with my in-laws... but hubby and I live local and eat there probably about 3 times a year :)

This is my favorite restaurant in WDW. The only dish I have ever tried there is the Beef Teriyaki. I get it every time I go because I love it sooooo much.

Definitely have dessert.....The Koko puffs or the Kileua torte are magnificent...I can't wait till our trip in August to eat..there...

I've only been there once but I really enjoyed the pan Asian noodles. My boyfriend had the mahi mahi which was also really tasty :) Remember to save room for dessert ... The Koko Puffs are awesome as is the pressed pot of coffee! On my next trip, I plan to try Kona for breakfast :p

You can check out Deb's site for a list of menus from Kona. This is a link to the dinner menu.

Oh my goodness, am I the first one to comment on breakfast at the Kona Cafe?!!

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

Tonga Toast (banana stuffed french toast - if deep fried is too heavy for you, you can ask for it grilled)

French Press Kona coffee

Fresh squeezed juice (mango & passionfruit) or orange juice

Great big thick steak sized slice of ham

Rhonna

EDIT: Whoops! Just re-read and realized you asked about lunch. Somehow I can't delete so...go for breakfast too! :)

hi strikersmom:wave:

this is a great thread::yes:: i am thinking if eating here before we head to mnsshp:D

libertybelle,
what time do you roughly head to kona before mnsshp?

thanx eve::MinnieMo

One of our most favorite places! DH & I put the two kids in the Neverland Club so we can eat alone! (It's fine for kids - it's just that we pick one meal each trip for ourselves)

I like the coconut chicken. We also like the pot stickers. DH has tried several different things and has liked them all.

Kona Cafe is one of those over-looked restaurants that is really quite good.

Hope you like it! :)

Jill

It's definitely one of my favorite places for dinner. We're going again next weekend, but I went with FH's parents last month I had some of the sticky wings (now, I don't eat meat off the bone, just a weird quirk of mine. but these were amazing!), the red cooked pork chop, and we've had different desserts over the couple times we've been there now. Never had a disappointment! (well, I wasn't as thrilled with the Tonga Toast as everyone else is, but I just don't like bananas)

FH's dad had the lava crusted tuna, and it was wonderful, repeating a theme - I don't like fish.

I'm going to have a hard time deciding between the pork and the new coconut chicken!

We had lunch at Kona Cafe in June, and it was our favorite meal of the trip! DH and I had the Island Chicken Sandwich, DS15 had the Big Kahuna Burger, and DS12 had a burger from the children’s menu. For dessert, DH and I each had the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pie, DS15 had the KoKo Puffs, and DS12 had the Kilauea Torte. Chuck and I had Kona coffee with our dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious!

This is crazy but I go for the burger. I have never been disappointed and think Kona has the BEST burgers at Disney!

After reading this post, I'm going to force myself to order something different.

The Kona Cafe is one of the best kept restaurant secrets in WDW! I haven't been for lunch, but have for dinner, and there are some of the same dishes on both the lunch and dinner menus. My Kona favorites are: Macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi, Teriyaki Beef, and the Sticky Wings (they are lick-the-plate yummy!!!). If you are going to Kona with kids, know that the kids food is good too. Our DS loves the chicken tenders, which are huge tenders of breast meat and the portion is large.

Yes, the Kona Cafe is very easy to get to. From the MK, just hop on the monorail, and travel the monorail loop until you reach the Poly. When you exit on the platform, and walk into the Poly, Kona Cafe will be directly on your left.

Kona has the best desserts. DH and I had some type of torte (can't remember the name) it was delicious! My grandson had the Kiddie Cone. I'll have to admit, I would have loved his dessert myself! It is a chocolate covered waffle cone, standing upright on a plate (chocolate at the bottom holds it in place). The cone has two scoops of ice cream, chocolate and vanilla, with Mickey sprinkles on top. At the base of the cone is a cloud of blue cotton candy, and a sprinkling of of M&M's. My grandson was in heaven! Can't wait to go again!

Yum! Love Kona for breakfast and dinner.I probably would love it for lunch too but have never tried it!
I always get Tonga Toast for breakfast and the mahi mahi for dinner. Koko puffs for dessert. My DD always gets the kiddie cone and doesnt even make a dent in it!
Cant wait to go back in August!

This has become one of my new favorites. Although we went at dinner, both meals we have had there were excellent- friendly service, not much of a wait, and fantastic tasting food. My mom and I went twice in 6 nights we loved it so much! The first night I had the prime rib and she had the shrimp & scallops. The second night I had the veggie spring rolls and she had the chicken stir fry. Divine. I wish I was eating there tonight!

We always go to Kona Cafe a couple of times each trip...only for breakfast.

TONGA TOAST!!!!!!!!!!!!:earseek:

My daughter took me there for dinner in May -- and we split a Caesar salad, the mahi mahi and banana creme brulee for dessert -- plenty enough for splitting and from the service to the food, it was all excellent!

I LOVE the Kona cafe. Have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there, and all were great!

As an FYI, you can get the beef terriyaki made with chicken as well.

Also I've found them to be one of the most accomodating restaurants at WDW in regards to food allergies.

We do Kona on a Magic Kingdom early entry day. We make the latest PS for breakfast (around 11:15) and it works out great. We do all of the major attractions and hop on the monorail for Kona. I order Tonga Toast and DH orders the shrimp omelett. Both are fantastic. We never wait to get in either.
