If we end up staying at the Poly (which I am trying desperately to do), do I really need an ADR for the Kona Cafe?

Perhaps not if you don't care what time you eat but I would. The past few times we have headed down at the last minute we tried to eat there for dinner and could only get 9:30 tables. You might be able to get lunch as a walk up though. Breakfast too is getting tougher from what i understand

Thanks! I try not to schedule too many breakfast ADRs, but if I have to I will. I would love some tonga toast before a day at MK! ;)

Captain Cook's has Tonga Toast if that's your primary motivation. ;)

We had booked the Poly for our last vacation. We were surprise upgrade to CL, which was a Godsend and very cool! We had only booked a breakfast and a dinner at Kona, but it ended up turning into more of a trip that was a resort experience rather than so much of a parks experience, so we added another breakfast and another dinner at Kona along the way. We also did the Luau, which was worth doing once, but I don't feel compelled to do it again. We also had breakfast at Captain Cook's one morning. Overall, the Poly experience was excellent. We love Kona Cafe. There is a wonderful waitress there named Beverly, you must ask if she can be your server. You won't be disappointed! Oh, and yes, we made ADR's. lol

Hi there,
I have been to the Kona Cafe over 10 times and most of the visits, if not over half the times I have ben to Kona Cafe, I hve just walked up and asked if they had a table. All I had to do was wait at the most, for 20 minutes.

Dinner, I'd do a reservation. Lunch and breakfast we've been able to walk up to both, and we're a party of 5 who have gone in July two years in a row--busy time at the Poly.

On our first day of arrival at 7:00 AM (red eye flight that gets into MCO at 5:30) we always have a leisure day of our hotel-Poly, and maybe a few hour trip to MK. So we booked two ADRs both for Kona Cafe because we weren't sure whether we were going to want breakfast or dinner there or both. But we wanted 8:00 AM and 7:15 PM. Right at the 180 day mark neither was available. we had to go with 8:30 and 7:10. I know it's not a big difference but if times are already getting snatched up at 180 days out, it'll be more difficult to the actual day you're planning on going.

Plus, why NOT get them? If you really want to eat there, there is no sense in NOT getting a ressie!

Sometimes it's hard to plan breakfast ressies with DS. Some mornings we do very well, some mornings it takes over an hour to get basic things done- teeth brushed, hair brushed, clothes on. (he has an ASD) If we have one of those mornings, aside from it being hard to be on time we surely would not be able to sit through a meal.
