we have a reservation at the kona cafe for dinner one of our nights, but i am considering changing it. my question is, what is the best dinner in MK or at one of the nearby resorts, not overpriced/fancy, fun for kids, and good food? opinions?
characters aren't necessary because we're already doing a character meal, but i do want the dining experience to be fun for my 3 year old.

We ate at the Kona cafe for dinner in 05 with a 5 & 8 year old, they both LOVED it, and when we went back last November there were plenty of kids there. :thumbsup2

Kids eat here, that won't be a problem. The atmosphere isn't really "fun" for a child, but my kids loved this meal in 2006 and we're going back this year.
The kids menu here is good and the kiddie cone dessert will be a big hit. The only problem is the "kiddie kone" is not on the kids menu, it's an adult dessert. Splurge and buy it for her anyway. It will make her day.

we eat at Kona every trip! I have 4 kids, 7, 8, 11 and 13. It is one of the restaurants my kids request every trip.

You should reconsider... Just got back last week, and Kona was one of our best meals and it was our first time there...

Food at Kona is great and while it is more like a coffeeshop atmostphere than anything else they are fine with kids. You might also want to consider the plaza in the MK as well.

Kona is a must do for our family! We have always found something great to eat and the kids are happy with their choices. It is nice to get away from the parks and have a less rushed meal.

If you're not crazy about the atmosphere at Kona why not try Ohana. My kids love it there - they do coconut races, parades and limbo contests! Kids can order regular food too - hot dogs, hamburgers, mac and cheese etc.

We did Kona with DD9 and DS3 and we had a great meal. It's not themed as much as the other restaurants, but our kids were fine. I also like Ohana, Chef Mickeys and 1900 Park Faire and all these are on the monorail route. If you are already doing a character meal and don't care for buffets, Kona Cafe is delicious.

Here's the thing - your kids do not need to be entertained every minute of every day.

They can sit through a really great meal for an hour and not die of boredom.

I say keep your ADR at Kona (because it really is one of the best TS on property) and the kids can, you know, eat kid's meals. ;)

We've eaten at Kona at least once every trip since we first ate there in 2005. DD was then just 6. She loves it. :lovestruc The food is good, and it's more relaxed than some of the other restaurants. She really loves the sticky wings and in the past I've ordered them for my appetizer and she eats them as her dinner. I usually schedule our dinner so that we can watch Wishes after on Poly's beach. DD enjoys playing in the sand and water while waiting-she usually hooks up with a few kids to play with as well. :goodvibes

My DD didn't like the Kiddie Kone. When we first ate there on the DDP, it was inc. so we got one. She didn't really eat any of it. She doesn't like cotton candy (I know :confused3 ) and at that time she didn't like chocolate. She much prefers the build your own sundaes you can get now. She gets them wherever she can.

Here's a pix of the sundae

our toddlers liked Kona and it was nice and loud (oh, how my standards have changed since having kids!) so that the kid noises did not in any way interfere w/the other diners' ambience. More importantly, it was some of the best food that we adults had at the World. and *great* coffee, too!

Also, if you time it right, you can eat dinner and then go down to the beach and see the Water Pageant and the fireworks. My kids LOVE that water pageant.

Kona Cafe is a great family restaurant. I would keep your ADR and definitely go. Enjoy!!

I agree with everyone that says keep your reservation at Kona. The food is fabulous and the Polynesian is a beautiful resort to visit.
