Kohls shipping charges rant/solution

What's with the ridiculous shipping charges at Kohls. I ordered 8 bras, $3.60 each (girls department). Bras = $28.80, shipping for the bras $18.00 :confused3 . Really, how much can 8 tiny bras cost to ship!

I decided to save $18.00 in shipping costs by ordering an item for $60.00 that I will be returning when I get it. I had a code for 15% off and a code for free shipping if you spent $75.00. I feel a bit sneaky about not really spending the $75.00, but Kohls should feel bad overcharging me by about $15.00 on shipping to start with.

I know what you mean about the shipping. I bought the same thing a while back, girls bras, and I said the same thing - how could they charge this much to ship? I did order more stuff to get free shipping, but I was keeping them.

Their shipping charges include a $6.95 base and $1.50 per each additional item. That would be a good deal if you were purchasing larger items, but eight bras do not cost $18.00 to ship. :sad2:

I like your solution, but that won't work for some since the cost of gas to a Kohl's store would cut into the savings earned.

But, it's all in their grand plan to make more money; to get you to spend more by making sure your order is over the $75 free shipping amount. Can't blame them for wanting their part of the Christmas season profits.

I used to work for Spiegel many years ago. At the time our handling charge was $3.95 and shipping was based on the weight of an item, not the price. If I remember correctly, it would have cost close to $7.00 to ship an item that weighed under 1lb.

Shipping handling was our #1 complaint. I'll never forget that we had a cookbook rack in a clearance catalog. It was designed to look like an old fashioned slicer. The end was wrought iron so it weighed a ton! We had so many complaints from customers that only ordered that item because the shipping was almost double what the cost of the item was. Those that ordered it as part of a bigger order didn't seem to notice. We spent a week making price adjustments for the shipping charges as a "good will" gesture. :headache: This was back in the late 80's so it took a while because the computer system was so slow!

Don't be surprised if the refund on your $60 item is reduced by the amount you would have spent on shipping, since you'll fall below the minimum amount required for that code when you return the item.

It seems like they have free shipping often enough, that I just wait for that. I know what you mean, though.

I often add additional items to get the free shipping codes and then return the additional items. They do no deduct anything from the returns to cover the shipping and handling.

I'm pretty sure it won't, since my return will be at the B&M store. I don't think they look at the shipping.

It won't. I worked for 5 years as a Supervisor at Kohl's and worked the service desk half of that time.
