I lived in Australia for a bit and visited an animal reserve. I was able to hold a koala there. (Saw an albino kangaroo as well!) That koala had SHARP claws and smelled none too sweet, but I loved holding him/her. DH had a picture of me holding the koala on his office desk and a coworker came by and asked about it. DH told him the pic was of his wife. The coworker said, in all seriousness, "That's one ugly dog she's holding."

Serena Williams said it was 123 degrees at the Australian Open. I couldn't imagine that kind of heat. 100 degrees is extremely hot to me.

Ellen Degeneres said her wife's mom sent her some pictures of the Koala getting into the water bowl. She showed the pictures on tv. So adorable!

I love Australian animals. I want a wallaby and a koala. They are all just the cutest little things. I want to hold one so bad.

Some day my dream will come true and I'll visit Australia. I need to get over my fear of flying first though.

I hope your staying safe in the heat. I was talking to my Australian SIL recently - seems half of Victoria is on fire! Very sweet pictures too.

Awwww how cute! We're going to Australia next year, and always wanted to see a koala! Are they usually that friendly with people? I've seen pictures of people holding them at zoos, and I always wondered if they really were that good with people, or they were being forced to cuddle?

If you are going with Adventures By Disney, you will not be permitted to hold one as part of your tour. You may get to touch one on the Queensland section of the tour (we did) but not hold it. Your zoo visit with the tour is in New South Wales (in Sydney) and we were told that untrained persons may not handle koalas there. You can take pictures of them in their enclosure. They'll most likely be asleep because koalas sleep a lot. I believe there will be places you can visit on your free time that will allow you to hold one and be photographed.

Koalas spend most of thier time in trees sleeping. Their other big thing is piddling. Celebrities - think Mariah want to be photographed cuddling a koala and it decides to piddle.

Best thing is to stand next to it. They also smell rather like tom cat wee
