For those who might be interested, KOA has their Come Camp and Kare free night offer going for May 14 and 15. Need to check the site for participating campgrounds.

We just booked the weekend at Mystic KOA in CT to make another trip to the Mystic Seaport area.

This offer benefits their charity for kids with cancer camp - so you get a great discount and help others at the same time.

We did that last year, and will probably be back this year, too. We enjoy the KOA just west of here. The couple that owns it works hard to make it a good place, and has remembered my name since the first time I camped there.

I used to think the KOA was too expensive. However the state parks are increasing rates, and if you don't get lucky on the reservation board you have to go get a campsite Wed or Thurs, depending on how busy they are. Since we always end up paying for extra nights it makes the KOA about even. And they have sewer connections, too.

I got the KOA e-mail also and was thrilled. Hubby works weekends and I wanted to go by myself. I was going to book for St. Augustine last night & hubby made me stop. You see, I don't drive right now and can't set up our pop-up myself. I have some medical issues. I tried to tell him that I could skip the meds long enough to be able to drive (we're only talking missing 2 doses since we live 90 mins away), and that I thought if I called ahead and offered one of the employees $20 to set-up they'd do it (or maybe even see if Donnie was willing to meet me there). He says to wait until he gets home next week to talk about it. He thinks maybe I should invite my sister to go along. It's a thought, but I always end up making her take trips with me so she can drive & do all the 'manual labor'. Y'all know I love to travel with her but I don't want her to feel used. So, were any of you considering the St. Augustine KOA for that weekend?? I'll stop my ranting/belly aching now.

I agree, this KOA set us back somewhere around $85/night in the summer last year and I could not fit my truck and trailer on the pull through site. Everyone had their tow vehicle parked parallel to the roads with the truck up tight to the trailer tongue and the drivers side in the road a little. Made for some tight maneuvering to get in, and frequently getting the truck out of the way to let people by with their trailers (you could not park on the grass next to the trailer). But the location was great and they had the place spotless. They had skydivers come by Saturday night and perform aerial acrobatics with smoke streamers and stuff and land in the field area of the CG at dusk.

Yeah, they can be tight, but they have to sell enough sites to make a profit, unlike the state parks. The KOA we go to was designed and built when most campers were well under 30', slides were unheard of, and pick-ups only had 2 doors. They probably fit the campers pretty well then. They are trying to add to their space and strethc out a little, but they're landlocked right now.
