Knowledge is Power (Puppymills), UPDATE, Oprah doing Show

There are plenty of awesome mixed breed dogs in shelters that need homes. :woohoo:

That is so true! I know I shouldn't play favorites with my fur babies but my mix breed Panda is my LOVE! He is my shadow!

We have a sort-of-beagle-ish dog and one that I just write "brown" on her vet forms under breed. :goodvibes Best dogs ever. :thumbsup2

I feel so bad for pet store dogs :sad1: I would never get one, but I feel so bad for the puppies since it's not their fault how they were born.

My girls volunteer at the animal shelter so I know how many wonderful dogs end up there. It's so sad....

I see you have 3 dogs in your signature picture...sitting very close to a cat. :rotfl:

I was fixing to ask you if you were calling one of her daughters a dog, because for the life of me, I could only see two dogs! I had to squint my eyes to see the black one next to the daughter in the dark sweater! :rotfl:

God, I'm getting old.

Too funny.....There is actually one cat that is missing from that picture because right before the I took the picture our other cat decided he HAD to be in the other room right away!!! :lmao:

That was our Christmas 06 picture and it actually went pretty well and it only took us a few takes to get a good picture with the animals (cept the other cat) to behave!

We lost the black dog (Cody) this summer to a heart attack :sad1: She was 15 and had a happy and healthy life, but omg we still miss her like mad... :sad1:

BUMPING :goodvibes

We got our Cat from Petfinder.com and We would never buy a cat or a dog from the pet shop when there are a lot of animals waiting in shelters :goodvibes

I know I have posted my Sweet Sierra before but here is a picture after she was rescued from a Arkansas Puppymill Commercial Auction. The group I got her from had to buy these dogs to get them out of the industry if not they would have been right back in it. They rescued 54 dogs, here is the link

Disneyaggie your 3 rescue dogs are too cute. My dogs like fresh laundry and especially if it is right out of the dryer :thumbsup2

What an amazing turn around! Her little eyes are just as bright and happy as they can be now! What a cutie! :flower3:

Last week (or the week before) there was a massive puppy mill in Phoenix, Arizona that was shut down -- folks there were 700 dogs! That is outrageous!

The news report said that the puppy millers would meet prospective buyers with about 5 dogs at another location (conveniently, not at their home). Apparently this led to some suspicion and, when the animal officers came in, they said that some of the dogs didn't even have paws!

Oh, and get this . . . the idiot law enforcement officer who was interviewed on camera made me want to scream. He said, "I feel really bad for these people. They got in over their heads and didn't know how to handle it". What the heck ? ? ? :scared1: Is he an idiot or what! It was obvious they knew what they were doing was wrong. Why would they conveniently meet people elsewhere, leading the unsuspecting buyers to beleive there were only a few in the litter. I was horrified by his statement. :sad2:

Sure there are some bad kennels at there, but there are many more that are truly wonderful. Just like anything else the bad ones make the news and the good ones are forgotten

I have a pet store dog sitting in my lap. It is a store run by a vet. Do I know for sure that she isn't a puppymill dog? No they gave me the name of the kennel but I wouldn't know if it was or not. I had no intention of getting a dog that day- we had been visiting breeders. We had had 2 dogs bought directly from breeders. *We couldn't rescue around here because of the ages of our children- no rescue was willing to give us a dog based only on that fact. We tried. So not everyone can walk into a rescue and end up with a dog.
When I saw Sophie she had just been brought in. I couldn't stand to leave her there. So she came home with us.
It does break my heart that dogs are treated that way. And I know I didn't help by buying one from a pet store. But I love Sophie. By the way I get my pets spayed or neutered.

I know many rescues won't adopt to families with small children so I totally understand. I am a sucker too for sweet doggies. I started this thread to post the puppymill information because people just don't know about what goes on. I didn't know, so if it helps one or however many dogs than that is great. Ya never know when your children are older maybe your next pet will be a rescue, at least you are aware of what goes on :thumbsup2

I'm sorry. I can't even begin to imagine.

Thanks...it hurt so bad that it made me question why I have pets, but I can't imagine life without them!

She was an awesome dog...bought her for $26 on a whim and she moved with us from Texas, to Alaska, to North Carolina to North Dakota.

We had her creamated and she is in the kitchen window sill, when I put her there my oldest DD said, "that's where she should be Mama, you know how much she loved to be in the kitchen!!" :goodvibes

Here's a better picture of her, this was taken at "her spot" at my mom's house 4 months before she died.
