Know where to get a reasonably priced graphing calculator/

When my twins were in HS, the teacher was able to get "a deal" buy purchasing them in bulk for the class. I think I paid $84 at the time(10yrs.ago)

I found a Texas Instrument, TI-30X IIS at the Goodwill for $9. My son said that is the type his advanced math class uses. I was thrilled!

Don't forget if your state has a tax free wek-end, they are included. That can save you some money.

We got the best deal on sale at Wal-mart a couple years ago.

I work at a college library and we own about 150 graphing calculators that we check out to students as semester long loans. A lot of students have no idea that we do this. So if you are a college student check with the library before you buy one.

I have my TI-83 Plus, that just needs new batteries. I'd be willing to let it go for $50 if anyone is interested. (I don't know if this type of reply is allowed, if not, moderator please delete and I will move it to PM).

We got my DD's sliver edition TI whatever # it was for a steal on ebay. She has been using it since 8th grade - so next year will make year # 3 on the same calculator.

I would wait until school recommends a calculator. Our middle and high schools definitely prefer the TI's.

If it is for a college course, I'll second what someone else said and mention that sometimes they have them available to be checked out and used for the semester.

Also, as someone already mentioned, be sure to put your name and contact info on the calculator! They get left in lecture halls and labs all the time, with no name on them. As much as people would like to get them back to their rightful owners, it's impossible if they aren't marked! So be sure your name is on it, both inside (battery cover) and out (main body of calculator, not just the removable cover).

Lastly, it seem the TI-83, TI-84 and TI-84 Silver all do pretty much the same stuff. In all honesty, I've seen TI-82 and TI-81's that are still in fine working order. The only issue with what you need is whether a certain college course perhaps demands a particular type. For many courses any will do!
