I've tried looking around on the internet -- didn't have much luck. Does anyone out there know of a support group for caregivers of stroke victims? Or any sort of support group for people undergoing cognitive rehab therapy?

Just thought I'd ask,
Thanks in Advance,

If you are looking for an actual 'meet someplace with people' type support group rather than an internet support group, you might want to check with a Rehab hospital if there is one by you.
I know the hospital I work for has support groups for patients/families with spinal cord injuries and also one for patients/families with brain injuries.

Thanks Sue,

We actually discovered a local support group sitting in a sushi bar on New Year's Eve (DH and I), the face-to-face kind.

DA's disabilities are rather unique -- I'm beginning to think that maybe I should focus more on "cognitive disabilities" in my quest and less on "stroke" -- I stayed up "too late" last night reading the Passporter for Special Needs (came on Monday) -- hoping that something in there would help point me in the right direction.

Some days I just have to remind myself that none of these "spells" (she's been confabulating & being incredibly stubborn since Saturday:sad2: :furious: ) last more than a week... and then hope that's true! Thank goodness I have DH to spell me and take over when she gets really confrontational -- he's much more used to working with people (I have my own business and most of my communication is email, newsgroups, and discussion boards) and dealing with real behavior.

Sigh, it's just been tough in spurts the last few days (PLUS I have a huge deadline for work)

feel free to pm me if you ever want to talk to someone whose 'been there'-in the sense of having a stroke and whats helped me (and dh and my kids) as i've recovered-and learned to adapt to some cognitive disabilities.

i had 2 strokes within 6 months a few years back and as frustrating as it was for me (aphasic, and my right side was too weak to be able commuicate through writing, short term memory totaly shot-still is to an extent)-i've talked with dh and the kids and am fully aware of their anger, frustratrations and fears in dealing with this.
