Know Before You Go Updated - May 17 - Testing rule changes

As some people have stated, I'm seeing several options for virtual proctoring of a test. Does anyone know if you can you use your free tests from the government with one of these services? So, about $20 per appointment?

Or use a test kit purchased (like BinaxNOW) with one of these services?

I'm not trying to be obtuse, just trying to figure out the logistics and keep costs down where we can.

emed is one of the vendors for BinaxNOw and partners with United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Airlines. They share the following on their website, indicating there are different types of BinaxNOW tests:
eMed is not authorized by the manufacturer to provide services for the Abbott BinaxNOW™ Self Test. Only the BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card Home Test (“Home Test”) is eligible for a virtually guided test session with an eMed Certified Guide using the eMed digital point-of-care platform.

The tests I got from the government for free are not eligible for the proctored test.

Through emed, but there are other virtual proctors. So, that's part of the question. Does anyone have experience with other proctors besides emed?

I’m sorry to be obtuse but I still don’t understand which test DCL wants. We have several options to go local pharmacy’s and get tested but is it the correct test? We called Walmart and we were told that their test was not a rapid PCR test. Yet the free tests they hand out say they are Covid 19 Antigen Rapid test Device? Help. Please. Thanks

The iHealth COVID tests sent out by the government do have a proctoring option. The information for how to do it is included. Don't know the cost for it.

Are BinaxNOW monitored tests? That's the kind we received with the free ones the government sent out but never looked to see if they had the ability to do it monitored so we can use it for travel.
Did you receive BinaxNow from the government?? We didn't, we got Roche brand tests... BinaxNow is good, because the company has repeatedly tested their test against all the Omicron variants, and published results; they are reliable. I've only see this test for sale on Amazon, but it's obviously just something to buy and won't be proctored. Confused here about the distinction of Self-Test vs. Home Test that was mentioned. Sounds like the same thing to me.

If you have the free antigen COVID-19 tests ordered from the government

We twice received iHealth kits from the gov’t which include an option to be proctored through an iHealth app. But you don’t get a choice in what brand the gov’t sends, so it depends what you’ve received.

It does NOT need to be PCR. Antigen is fine, as long as it is administered by the pharmacy or doctor OR is monitored/proctored by an online video.

There are 2 versions of BinaxNOW.

This one labeled “Home Test” includes online proctoring:

This one labeled “Self Test” does not:

No, I just mentioned them as another brand that can be purchased.

I had the same question about time....If you leave port at 4:45 does that mean you can't get a test till 4:45 on that saturday? or anytime on Saturday work?
I emailed safe passage, but I imagine they are swamped. I just don't want to pay for tests, take them a few hours too early and then end up paying again. I think the logical conclusion is if they say days they're going by the date, not the time, but they need to clarify.

We received the BinaxNOW Covid-19 antigen self test and the Roche Covid-19 at-home test.

Went to Walgreens website. They offer 3 tests: PCR: results in 48 hours. Samples sent to lab.
Rapid Antigen Test: Results in 2 hours. Test samples on site. And says to check with destination to verify meets testing requirements.
Rapid NAAT Test: Takes 2 hours. Samples tested on sit and meets most requirements but still check with destination to verify meets testing requirement.
In my area there are no Walgreens within 100 miles of me that have the Rapid Antigen Test available, only the other two.

Edit: As pointed out below, this won't help for DCL, since minors can't use rapid antigen tests under the DCL policy.
Wait, what? Where are you seeing that? I thought only the under 5s can't use a rapid test, but I assume all other minors are okay to rapid test.

I don’t believe your statement is accurate. Unvaccinated children must have a PCR test. Vaccinated guests age 5+ can do a rapid antigen. So “minors” age 5-17 can use an antigen test conducted through eMed.com, with the parent managing the child’s account.

I believe you live in Canada and therefore the free RAT we received from the government would not qualify for the Disney cruise as those tests are meant to be done at home and not proctored by a nurse or a doctor. You will need to either purchase the switchhealth test kits from Air Canada that can be supervised by a nurse over the internet or you go to Shoppers or Walmart and pay for the RAT or a PCR test that they Pharmacist administers to you and gives you the results within 15-30 minutes.

Also, make sure that if you go with the RAT (rapid antigen test) that you get the on that says its for travel.
