Know anything about WDW Tokyo or HK?

We are moving to China and I would love to hear experiences from either WDW HongKong or Tokyo. I heard when HK opened it was really crowded. I wonder if that has improved? Anyone know which is more highly recommended? We will be equally far from both. I am definitely going to need some comfort food (Disney!) while there. TIA

I hope your move goes alright. I know they have a room dedicated to DLHK in the China Pavilion at Epcot. It's too bad there isn't a place to discuss those two Disney areas on this site.

My brother and his family live in Asia (Singapore) They went to Disneyland Hong Kong at the beginning of December. It was all wonderfully decorated. They have a DD9 and DD11. They all really enjoyed it. The said they had some great shows, and so many character greetings. The stayed on site at The Hollywood Hotel (is that right?) My wonderful SIL sent me back all sorts of little things, including the freebie stuff from the hotel room (included slippers!) The napkins were great as they were all individually wrapped. The gifts were all really nicely presented too.

Attractions are still limited there, but they still had a really good experience. There is a good official Disney site, both in Mandarin and English, you can click which language you want. That will give you a good up to date idea of attractions. My favorite souvenir by the way was a specially themed Disney subway/metro/underground ticket.

It's Disney after all, so if you are looking for a fix, it'll work. Just remember that it isn't quite to the scale of WDW!

Just to add they didn't have a problem with crowds.

I believe they have an extension to Fantasyland called Fantasy Gardens, where they do a ton of character greetings.

I was there the month it opened and did not think it was too crowded. Most people spoke english and there were plenty of labels in english. The people were very friendly but have a different concept of "personal space" then americans have. You will find that throughout China though.

The park was small with mountain like area in the background.

I stopped for mickey ear ice cream bars and they also had red bean ice cream!!

i took my DW and DD3 to HKDL on a day which sold out (thank goodness we booked tickets online) back in october last year. fortuantely it hasn't been as crowded, lately. if you frequent Disney resoorts, you'll feel that it's missing something. it has all of the Disney feel with propping and atmosphere, but it's very small. it was great for my daughter as it was her first DL experience, but my older boys would get bored fairly quickly as they're used to the american parks.

things i didn't like: they've built the queueing areas very wide, so people constantly try to cut in front of you. there is a hill behind the castle - looks very wrong standing on Main Street. there are only a few rides. since i was there they've added 2 rides, but the only e ticket is Space Mtn and there aren't very many for younger kids. the food expreience was a big let down, as well. hopefully this changes over the next few years.

i'll probably be going again relatively soon to take more photos since i spend a lot of time in asia.

TDL and TDS, on the otherhand, are fantastic parks. they have everything you'd expect - things for young kids, all of the lands, rides, and food experiences, and the parks are nice and big.

1) I have been to Tokyo several times, and it is a GREAT experience.
. . . Disney Seas will blow you away, it is that kewl
. . . most CM's speak English fluently
. . . all CM's seem VERY friendly
. . . worth every penny (and more) to get there and enjoy the magic
3) Hong Kong is nice, but vastly underbuilt.
. . . too few rides and attractions for the crowds
. . . most CM's go well beyond call-of-duty to make you comfotable
. . . not worth the price and inconvenience (for right now)
4) Over all, I rate the Disney parks
. . . WDW
. . . Disney-Tokyo
. . . Disneyland
. . . Disney-HongKong
. . . Disney-Paris


NOTE: Both parks are owned by non-Disney companies, and pay license/royalty fees (and other fees like engineering, etc) to Disney. Thus, they can build as fast or as slow as they wish. In the case of Disney-Tokyo, Oriental Land Company has spent BUNCHES of money and has made one wonderful adventure for guests.

Thanks everyone. From what I have read here and on other sites in the last few days, Tokyo is much better than HK and DisneySea is fabulous. So, since it will be a 2.5 hour flight either way, we'll definitely do Tokyo. Thanks so much. Hopefully soon I'll be able to do a great trip report on it.

Rustyscrapper, Tokyo comes second after WDW!! That's great news! Now, I'm really excited. You rate HK better than Paris, though? I've not been to either yet, but it still surprises me. I've only heard that HK is tiny and crowded.
