Taking my 8YO daughter and friend to Disneyland Aug 25th-28th. Was planning to do DL/DCA on Fri-Sun and thinking about Knotts for Monday. We have never been to Knotts and thought it could be a nice change but wondering if our time is better spent with another day DL. All of us have been to DL before so not like its our first time. My other concern is the CHOC walk is on Sunday the 27th...will the park be more than normal crowded and should this be the day to go to Knotts instead of Monday? Help!

If you've been to DL before, i'd say give Knotts a shot. I haven't been in a good number of years, but I always enjoyed it. If this was more of a "once in a great while trip" i'd say add on the extra Disney day.

Also, i'll be there the same weekend. :)

Knott's has a lot of roller coasters, so if you like coasters Knott's would be a good bet. Personally I'm not HUGE on coasters, so I'd enjoy another Disney day more. Disney has shows, parades and and Knott's doesn't have anything of that caliber.

We like to visit Knott's for a change of pace and place. The food is good and the park has generally been clean and pleasant when we have gone. (We have only been 3 times, twice during Thanksgiving week and once during summer, so we don't have a whole ton of experience.) My advice for Knott's though would be to not finish there; either do it first or as a break in the middle of Disney touring. Also, don't expect it to be Disney, and you are less likely to be disappointed. I don't ride thrill rides but still enjoy the mild rides, shows, atmosphere, and food.

All that being said, I was going to advise you to just stick with Disney since it doesn't sound like you've been visiting multiple times per year for many years like I have, and adding one more Disney day wouldn't be too expensive or difficult. However, when I read your final comment on the CHOC walk I changed my mind. Do three days at Disney: Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Do Knott's on the Sunday. That way you get both experiences, you don't do Knott's at the end of your Disney trip, and you avoid any potential crowds and inconveniences of being there on a big event day such as CHOC.

Knotts is fun, but that age may be hit or miss. Knotts does have the Camp Snoopy area where there are more kid-friendly rides. The other stuff tends to be pretty hardcore coasters and rides. My kids always liked the train ride, gold panning and other wild west stuff. And the river rapids ride at Knotts is a more mellow and relaxed than GRR in my opinion. They also have some good food there (Pinks outside). And they have a really cool rock/gem store in the park. If your daughter likes the Peanuts characters there is also a store for that stuff as well. Overal if you haven't been i would suggest it. Just make sure to look for discounts as there are usually some good ones.

Knotts is much cheaper and a great time. If you go, make sure you eat at the restaurant up front.

Our family loves Knotts. You should go and check it out. Like others say its inexpensive and they also have those 99 cent refillable drink cups which also are a money saved. I've never had Mrs. Knotts chicken but I've heard wonderful things about it.

If your into thrill rides then Knotts might be good but otherwise, it's disappointing after being at DLR because it's not as clean or well done.
If you end up going to Knotts I suggest you go there first and then to DLR.

Had it twice now.. first time we did take out.. there is a little shop on the main strip that sells take out and then then this year we went to the restaurant , both times I grossed everyone out by drinking the gravy... lord love a duck.. its amazing !!! lol

Knott's is just okay in my book. The western area is fun to walk around and the mine train is fun. But otherwise, it's roller coasters, a log ride that always has a ridiculously long line, and a ton of kiddie carnival type rides. The fried chicken is awesome though and boysenberry anything. It's worth a shot. My 7-year-old loved in when we took him, but he also has never asked to go back (we are theme park enthusiasts so for him never to ask when he begs for Legoland, Disneyland, Universal, etc., shows me it's just not that great in his book).

While I'm not a fan of Knott's, it is something different.
Check out this link for promotional discounts that might be going on during your dates

It might save a few buck on tickets

I haven't been to Knott's in many years. I've been wanting to go, but in the past, I've always left Knott's thinking, "I should have gone to Disneyland instead." It is a fun place to do some different and laid back things. I don't do the roller coasters there, but that's a big attraction for many. I like the ghost town area and the older classic rides like the Stagecoach, the Train, Log Ride, and the Mine Ride. If you do decide to go, I'd go the day during the CHOC walk. The CHOC walk will make the entire Disney area extremely crowded.

We had fun at Knott's, it's a nice one-day "something different". I would definitely go on CHOC walk day.

I'll have to be another vote for don't do it on your last day. I've only been there once, around 1987. I went with a friend to DL for his birthday one day and Knotts the second day. It's left a very lasting impression of being a disapointing place to go right after DisneyLand. My DW says it's a fun place to take go though, so I think it's probably all about timing.

Nah... It's not about timing....
And YES, If you do go don't make it your last day.
It's a theme park but it's NOT Disney!

My grandkids kept asking to add a day at Knott's on our Disneyland trips. For many years I resisted.
The year I cave and took them to Knott's they were about 8 and 11years old. This was about 12 years ago.
They lasted from opening of 10am to 2pm and were asking to go back to Disneyland.

If your daughter wants to go, take her. Look at the link I post above for Promotions on discount tickets.
The CHOC walk Sunday would be my choice. Finish your trip at Disney on Monday.

Come back and give your opinion on your day at Knott's.

Have fun

The parks will be super busy after CHOC walk so I suggest you go to Knotts on that day.

I have good memories of Knotts, having been there as a youngling, teenager, and in my 20s.

Sunday would be better to go to Knotts and then returning to DL on Monday.

My son is 7 and loves the most of the intense ride (the ones he can get on) and all of the Camp Snoopy rides.

Most rides at Knotts do have a height limit of 42", and a few set at 46-48". The really intense rides are set at 54". The longest lines have always been Ghostrider and The Log Ride with waits sometimes over an hour.

Strategy wise...We usually go clockwise when entering Knotts and finishing up at Camp Snoopy. If your little ones want to see the Peanuts show, then going counter clockwise might work better so you do all of Camp Snoopy first then the rest of the park.

Just a bit of advice, there are some "dead zones" throughout Knotts... especially on the back end of Knotts near the Boardwalk...its really a complete wide open area with very little shade. Being in that part of the park is usually a downer for me because theres nothing there. Which is why I agree with the others here and say to visit DL again before you leave to maybe bring your spirits up again.

And the chicken dinner is really a must! Especially after walking around all day, its a great and satisfying dinner!

If you do decide to go to Knotts, you can buy your tickets online a few days before going for a discount (usually $45 online and $75 at the gate).
