Exactly, to me, purses are SIMPLY a practical thing. They need to be big enough to carry two trade paperbacks, my wallet, my cell phone and all the stuff my kids give me. They need to sling over my shoulder with a single movement of one arm. They need to hold up well. And they can't be so expensive that if the cat throws up in them or the kids hand me a bottle of pop without the cap firmly on that spills, or makeup gets all over the bag when the lipstick pops open, I get angry.
But I never switch purses, I buy one and use it for years until the strap or lining give out. It doesn't need to match my outfit.
So I find purses to be amusing and fascinating. But I do know a Birkin from a Radley from a Coach - in part because I find them facinating.
On the other hand, I enjoy wine. You are projecting on me again, I'm not buying it as a collectible, I have a $500 bottle of wine downstairs so I can drink it. We fairly regularly drink $100 bottles of wine. We did drink a $250 bottle of Dom for New Years.
(I'm not a collector of physical things - When I choose to splurge, I splurge on experiences - travel, food, wine, theatre tickets).
I am material/spiritual girl. I do spend on travel, theather and so on but I do not spend on fancy food or restaurants unless on vacation. I am very simple in food department. I never did GF restaurant in a kitchen when they bring you all the rare and expensive food because for me those mashrooms that cost $10,000/lbs are just mashrooms, so is blue lobster and some fancy wines. I am a very good cook and I use good products but not going overboard. I was tought that if you plan your food you can actually save there. As for wines, you probably can say a difference between $500 bottle and $25 bottle, I cannot, so I am not getting expensive wine as well, waste of money to me.
As for designer clothes and staff, I am into quality not brands, however pretty often quality means brand. I shop for clothes in Kohls and same level stores and I constantly throw my clothes out, still I cannot make myself go and spend $100 on a tshirt even so I know it will last for years. I do have some Italian clothes brought to me by my mother years ago, no brand names just not made in China, they still look like new. If I could I would buy more expensive clothes maybe even designer but not for the name, infact I would never wear something with sparkling Chanel or something on a top, I am not flushy, my style is classic. I do however spend money on shoes, again practical and comfortable. I wasted too much money on Nine West, Steve Maden and Aerosole. Those are made out of wood and brake easily. I do BCBG and Coach now. Lasts forever, look great. No Monollas(SP) however, I would never spend $500 on shoes, or maybe if I could afford it, I would change my mind, do not know. Back to our cows, bags, for me again it is about quality. I like leather bags, many pockets inside and a good stracture. None of the cheap bags really have those qualities. They may look good when you buy them but you better get a new one in 2-3 months. I threw away an anormous amount of bags, probably would be a nice downpayment on a designer one. I stick with Guess and Katy Van Zeland for now. They are not made of real leather but looks pretty close, they are cute, functuanal and have stacture. They are under $100 on sale. They do not last more then 2 years however, but I am fine for now. If I ever will be able easily afford a $2,000 bag, I may get it. The one I like does not have logo all over so trust me unless you know Fendi bags you will never know what it is. I personally would not care if someone will recognize it or not, this bag would be for me not for others to discuss. So that is all. For some reason some people think to be a material is a bad thing, I think it is practical. Moreover none of us including you is just material or just spiritual, we all mixed.
