If a child were found with a knife in your child's middle school, how would you want the child who had the knife to be disciplined(by the school)?

Our school system requires automatic suspension of three days I think. They have a zero tolerance policy about weapons.

I would want them expelled for the remainder of the year and mandatory counseling before they could come back to school!

Me too! If this isn't what happens I'll be pretty upset!

That's not much of a zero tolerance policy. Three days is nothing!

Our system expells the student!! a few years ago a senior was expelled a few weeks before graduation when a knife was found in the bed of his truck that he had left in there after a camping trip. One day he was running late for school and parked behind the lunchroom instead of the student parking lot and when he was turned in for the parking violation they found the knife which had become wedged way back in a corner.

Actually I've just been corrected by DS. Last year a kid in 7th grade brought a paint ball gun to school and was expelled for the remainder of the year. I stand corrected.

In our school system, there is zero tolerance for having any weapon including knives on school property. This is communicated well to both students and parents. The policy is to expel the violating student for the remainder of the year. I completely agree with this policy and would expect nothing less.

We have a very small Catholic /private school (pre-k /8th )and they have zero policy as well .Well due to DD eating habits she wanted to take bread and butter it at school If she did it in the Am. is was mushie.
I went to school for a solution and they gave me one ,small butter knife (ones with little char.on top ),butter had to be applied in front of a teacher and spreader turned over until we picked it up each day. This was a small price to pay but well worth it as she ate every day and we did not comprimise the safety at school.
We just had a 5th grader Expelled for stabing a girl with a pencil

Supposed zero tolerance policy at our schools too. This is a concern for me because my son carries a pocketknife on the weekends. He knows how to use it - in fact he is annoying about knife safety. My fear is that one day he will accidently take it to school. I have already instructed him NOT to tell anyone if that happens. He is to call me immediately & I will come & get it from him.

There is a zero tolerance policy in my school district. If a child were to have a knife, and that includes a plastic eating utensil, then they would be suspended or expelled.
