Knight's package at BBB for girls?

What time of year are you visiting?
I don't think they had it last year but they have had Pirates Leauge in previous years, it's a shame though the have only done it at Halloween time.
It is such a shame that they don't have it year round like WDW
Okay. I admit I had a cocktail while I was on hold. I meant a knight not a pirate. The girls can be knights. Lol. Yeah I think the pirate thing is just Halloween. A wee bit to much tequila on St Paddys day

We will be there the last 10 days of August - at least, that's the plan. I have booked the hotel, but not the flights at this stage - that is a this week job! But it will be before the Halloween sessions of the Pirates League. Yes, it is a great shame that they don't have it year round. I think it would also be cool to have Star Wars makeovers in the new Star Wars land, too. Padme Amidala? C-3PO? Lots of fun possibilities there. I will be bringing the girls' X-Wing pilot costumes, too.

:woohoo:

Tequila, Baileys, anything fun and green (Midori Illusion, anyone?). Darn it, too early in the day for an encore! :drinking1

6 days and counting... no Disney reply, though DDhunter's sleuthing means I no longer need one, it is interesting that they haven't answered yet. Are they too busy reading this thread? :teacher:

DDhunter, :worship:you are my hero. :thanks: That is so good of you to chase it up for us. My daughter is going to be thrilled! She will be a princess, a pirate, and a knight in the time we are there - though with the pirate, I think I might be on my own!

That'a great but I find it a bit disturbing that the answer wasn't obvious to the first two people. There should be written policy that any child between 3 and 12 can be a knight ora princess.

Their own description of the knight's package says nothing about the gender of the participants, so I think it's fair to assume (or insist, if necessary) that your daughter be allowed to do the knight's package.

The Knight Package

Starting at $19.95 (plus tax), this package includes hairstyling, along with a sword and shield. Please note that all prices are subject to change without notice.

I agree that a written policy would be a good idea to make it easier to get a consistent answer to the question. The second CM was a BBB CM, and it seems odd that a consultation with someone else would be necessary, and that the response would then be, "Of course - this is Disneyland!" It would sound a whole lot more convincing if there had been no hesitation!

We will be booking her in in her own name, so they will get their first hint then that it will be a little girl on the day. And a little cheery persistence tends to go a long way. I will make sure I have it smoothed out before she arrives for her appointment, though - just so she doesn't think there is anything wrong with it. She's only 4 (turning 5 on that trip), and doesn't understand yet that others have gendered expectations. I remember the first Minnie Mouse dress I bought for her, she cried - because she liked Mickey, not Minnie. I thought she liked all the MMCH friends equally, but it turns out, no. I looked everywhere for a Mickey Mouse dress for her, and couldn't find anything. Australia is getting better with stocking Mickey Mouse merchandise, but there are only ever a few things in the store. I bought both girls some tops for our trip last week - and had to go to the boys department to get a Mickey top (they had princesses and Minnie for girls). I got the princess ones, too. I am making them Lightning McQueen dresses.

I don't know how long it will be before she starts getting pushback from classmates and peers, but for the moment, I am going to enjoy the fact that my house is as littered with Lightning McQueen and Mickey as it is princesses and Minnie.

Does anyone else note that while the question is not answered directly, the fact that the Knights Package is for boys is specifically mentioned? Without specifically precluding girls...

That is a strange response. They clearly state the princess makeovers are for girls, but don't say anything about your actual question! The only problem I could see you having is with hairstyling. The assumption is that boys have short hair and girls have long hair (ugh). I'm guessing the low fee is anticipating a quick, easy short-haired gel style. If your daughter has long hair, I could see them saying that they can't style it for the price. Does that make sense?

I want to see pics of your adorable knight!

I would hope that a boy with his heart set on being a princess would be able to have his dreams realized at Disneyland, too!

EDIT: I just re-read that they say it's for boys. I would try at BBB. I think they'll accommodate (but check in with them before your daughter is there.) Good luck!

If that's supposed to be their way of telling you no, that's awful. It isn't even a direct response. Keep after them, because humans do read these inquiries and you deserve better than having to deciper their meaning. If your daughter wants to be a knight, she should get to be a knight.

It's spikes or slicked back with gel and Mickey confetti. My son's hair was just too long for spikes but she did it anyway and it looked ridiculous. So for a longer haired kid just have them put enough gel somewhere to hold the Mickey confetti and move on. :)

That reply was just a "blurb". Nothing there that I would take as policy, at least not her parenthetical bit.

I wouldn't worry about this any longer.
By the way there is NOTHING about the hair that made my son feel like a knight. They very likely put this package in as something for little brothers (and the occasional sister) to do while waiting ages for their (likely usually) sisters. It's an excuse to get a sword and shield. There is no ceremony etc.

So even if the child just gets the sword and shield they haven't really missed anything.

The hairstyle actually ruined my son's experience. It took about an hour for him to forget about his crazy spikes (which bothered him so much I had to delete the photos of the "reveal" because he looked so sad that I couldn't handle it) and get on with sword fighting invisible foes.

I have the opposite "problem" my oldest daughters name is Elliot. They have never questioned me while booking her in. She also (at 7 now) loves whatever she loves. We went through a huge JNLP fan, we had to buy boys undies because they had no girls ones (and undies are undies right-she was 4).
@AussieDisneyMum I personally would just go for it, show up with her booked it and act like there should be no question that she should do it. I honestly can't see Disney saying no with her standong right there.
I also would have a huge issue if they said no, on the basis that the cheapest "girls" package is $54.95. If what they are saying is that they dont want anyone "just" booking a knights package, they should sell it as an add on only avalible for siblings with another booking.

@AussieDisneyMum and @RainyDayPixie I hate to be right but this this how they answer any question. Send a vauge blurb (copied from the website normally) about whatever topic your question is about but otherwise ignore the actual question.

Agreed. If I wasn't at work I would call for you and get a direct response. That sounds like some BS.

The first guy I talked to on chat was just reading the policy which says (boys), so he wasn't sure. The first person who answered the phone at BBB didn't seem very familiar with the Knight Package at all (she was probably the cashier/phone answer-er and doesn't actually do the make-overs). But it was definitely an absolute yes when the third person got on the line who was a "stylist" at BBB.

Disney seems to prefer deaiing with things on a case by case basis. They will send a general, very open response so that they are not committed to anything in writing. But we've found that (usually) when we get to the parks and ask a human being, then we can discuss a way to find an answer. Since the OP's question is probably a bit unusual at this time, Disney probably doesn't have an official policy on it as of yet (but will soon if enough parents ask the same question). Thus the vague response and CMs who don't know for certain how to answer. October is a long ways away and much can happen before then. Policy can be made, can change, or some new package may be offered. The OP should go ahead and make a booking, ask CMs in person before her DD's reservation date, then go for it (having a back up plan, just in case). Things should be just fine.

Thanks, RainyDayPixie - I think she will have a blast. The hair part, I agree, is probably the main difference between a girl getting 'knighted' and a boy (generally, girls have longer hair). However, I will braid her hair and slick it back with gel because her costume has a 'chainmail' hoodie helmet - any other style would just get messed up, anyway, under the hoodie. She would just get a kick out of a FGIT sprinkling fairy dust and 'knighting' her in the magical BBB, which is all I really envisage for her. She LOVES the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo scene in Cinderella, and like her sister at the moment, warbled the song even before she could say the words.
