Definitely bring your cane. I've traveled with mine on an airplane, and the flight attendants stored it in the closet on the plane (although we have gotten by with putting it in the way back of the overhead compartment).
I have bad knees also, because of my osteoarthritis (among back and muscle problems, and am considering renting an ECV on my family's next trip to Disney World in January, as I will be bringing my walker. My mom's back is giving her too many problems to be dealing with putting together/taking apart my manual wheelchair.
