I am wearing a knee brace with metal supports. It is sure to set off the metal detectors. Can I just tell security about this and ask them to wand me by hand? I can take it off, but it's a pain!:headache: It's a very tight neoprene style that has to be pulled off and on.

You can leave it on. I had the boot-type brace up to the knee with metal supports. They just took me aside and hand-wanded, patted me down, and checked for explosives residue. They actually kind of freaked out when I offered to remove the brace. Looking back, I guess if I DID have a bomb that would have been a likely way to set it off. I really wasn't a big deal and didn't take all that long. They'll probably notice it before you go through but just tell them when you get up there if they don't say anything.

Thanks, I thought it would be OK. I've been wanded so many times - that it doesn't bother me. I always seem to get chosen for the random wanding. It must be because I'm so imposing at 5'1" and 105 lbs.:rotfl2:

You'll be wanded when you set off the metal detectors; it's automatic by now and you shouldn't have to take it off. :)

A piece of unsolicited advice: if you're traveling with someone else, have them go through first, maybe even a couple of spots ahead of you, so that they can collect your stuff after it goes through the belt. It can take TSA a few minutes to have someone available to wand you. :)

and tell them before you go thru that you have a metal brace on. Don't set the metal detector off and then tell them.
