OK - I think I’ve got it. In the past week or so I’ve been woke to the fact we must purge society of the following:

1. The OK hand gesture
2. Saying ladies and gentlemen and/or any combination thereof
3. Saying hello
4. Black jack o’lanterns
5. Bride costumes for kids

Have I missed anything? Somebody help me out here. The list gets longer daily and I’m getting “sensitivity burn-out”.

Well, yesterday, my DD & I had a conversation about how Oxford University students have voted to do jazz hands instead of clapping at all their events because clapping can be triggering.

So I guess you can add clapping.

And, for what it's worth, I saw the black jack o'lanterns as painted & decorated to look like skeletons.

I have a set of black flamingos in my yard right now w/ white skeletons painted on them to look like skeleton flamingos & the black pumpkins w/ white faces made me think of my skeleton flamingos... because it's Halloween.

I honestly don't understand why black jack o'lanterns are a thing in the first place, nor why they would be offensive. And when did saying hello to someone become offensive?

With our luck, bananas will suddenly become offensive. 1 of my kids is going to be a banana for Halloween this year.

Only because I think they meant when it’s used in a certain way, not as a general greeting. That poster has never struck me as the type of person who is overly sensitive or easily offended

I wouldn't call it offensive, but it can be used sarcastically/rudely (like in the gif posted above), which can be hard to judge in writing at times. Greeting someone in person with a friendly "hello" is about as inoffensive as it gets.

I would say definitely not... until someone points it out or lets them know that jazz hands are also triggering, of course.

But I think "jazz hands" are the same as the sign language symbol for applause?

I quoted myself instead of editing in order to explain.
I’ve definitely seen hello used with a sarcastic even rude tone so I’m just making an assumption that is what they meant. I’m basing that on the posters history, they don’t strike me as a person who would think using hello as a general greeting is rude or offensive.
I also admit I’m only assuming and could be totally wrong.

My main objection to the bride costume is that, really, it should be floor-length. I mean, if I want to dress up as a bride, I want the train and the whole 9 yards.

Actually, one could make an objection to any costume. For example:
Ghost: promoting false belief in nonexistent beings
Witch: promoting false belief in special powers and, worse, promoting pointy hats
Skeleton: promoting the inside of a person's body--this should be sacrosanct and never exposed in public
Any promoting a fantasy that will never be fulfilled, unless of course you are a princess, in which case you probably want to dress up as a chimney sweep
Chimney sweep: promoting a romanticized notion of a life-threatening occupation
Elsa: promoting Frozen
Anna: ditto above

In fact, you could make a pretty decent argument that dressing up at Disney characters for Halloween is offensive. For example:

• Goofy - physical disabilities (clumsy, always falling down, etc.)
• Donald Duck - mental health problems, rage, temper tantrums. He should probably be put on a watch list.
• Mickey Mouse - naive, too much of a Pollyanna, makes kids believe that everybody is your pal
• Minnie Mouse - absolutely no feminist spirit there at all, which opens up a treasure trove of #woke
• Elsa - OCD and control issues, could trigger people with anxiety and panic attacks
• Anna - too accepting of others, naive, got stuck in an abusive relationship with a boyfriend who wanted to kill her
• Snow White - sends wrong message to young women because she's willing to work for free for a bunch of short men, cleaning their laundry, cooking for them, basically being an indentured servant

etc.

It is the overly sexualized "slutty" costumes for little children that bother me. A bride costume wouldn't raise my eyebrow.
