KLM Code

I saw in a posting that using the KLM code with National Car Rental has controversy and to do your homework before booking. Can someone please enlighten me? I have tried to google this, but can't find a whole lot. We are flying southwest and I don't want to get in trouble for using this. Thanks!

Do a search for KLM. There are an infinite amount of threads on this subject. I will tell you I have used it three times, 2 in Orlando and once in Oakland without any issues. I'll be using it again this October in Orlando.

The code was available on the US website. You could join Flying Blue online then print a membership card. Some people thought the discount program wasn't intended for US citizens. Might be true but there wasn't any such disclaimer listed.

The current issue. National is no longer listed on Flying Blue's website as a partner. Other rental agencies now offer discounts to Flying Blue members. It appears the contract with National is no longer in effect. It also appears National is still accepting the code. I have no idea if a company has to honor reservations with a discount code if that particular program is discontinued.

So far so good but you don't have recourse if National tells you the Flying Blue promotion is no longer in effect.

This sounds indicative of the old Walmart code through Alamo. The code was still visible on an old Walmart page that was not accessible link-able though the Walmart website unless you had a specific link to it. Apparently the code still worked on the Alamo website and was used many times even though Alamo and Walmart hadn't had an agreement for several years.

It doesn't seem that Alamo/National remove old inactive codes from their system when their agreements are no longer in effect.

I'll be interested to see if it works.. I have used it before and just booked again and it gave me the discount. Hoping its not over!!

Tonight, I joined the KLM Flying Blue, got my ID #, went to the National website and ran a quote for a 2-week Economy rental. National accepted the KLM code and gave me a quote that was $100 less than the price I was looking at before the KLM code. Amazing!

Where did you get the KLM code? Were you able to find it on their website? National used to be listed as a rental car partner. A code was listed. I can't find any current listing for National.

No controversy at all in my experience. I've used it in California and Orlando 2 times each with no problems. I have never been asked to show any type of KLM card. I doubt if the person checking you out cares.

I already have another reservation booked in Seattle for July. It saved a couple hundred dollars for the week.

I found the code here on the disboards. I saw it as well on flyertalk.

Ditto for me too...I found the code in another car rental thread. To the Original Poster: read ALL the car rental threads here on the Transportation board. You will find all sorts of incredibly valuable tips and info and advice.
