Kitting for a Crop Question

I am going to my first crop at my LSS this Saturday from 9am-midinght. I am trying to kit a bunch of pages so I am set on what I want to accomplish. How many pages would you try to get together for that amount of time? I am a detailed scrapper so I don't scrap very quickly.

I usually bring 15-20 layouts for an all day crop like that, I seldom finish that much. If you do have it all organized with the paper, embellishments, etc. it does tend to go a little quicker though, but I too am pretty slow. I'd say 12-14 would be a more realistic number for me to actual finish.

I'd rather have too many than too few. I would probably want anywhere from 30-50 kits for an all-day crop.... but that also depends on how much work you "pre-do" for the kit. When I kit I usually select a layout/sketch, crop the photos, select the papers, and sometimes cut the title letters and any other Cricut elements and put them through my sticker maker. That all goes together in the "kit" ready to go. Then when I get to the crop I can really fly (assuming I'm not too busy chatting!)

If I were just selecting photos and paper and kitting them together, I would certainly make less kits. Picking the layout and doing the sketch, and then picking the paper(s) takes me the longest.

All that said, I'm not a real detailed scrapper. Many of my pages are just matted photos, title, journaling and maybe a few photo corners or flowers.

Anyhow, like I said.... I would want too many.... at least you can work on them when you get home. But if you have too few, you will run out of stuff to do! Good luck.....................P

for me, I would probably finish a 2 page layout every 90 - 120 min (if I'm journeling, embelishing, stamping, etc) - so with 15 hrs - I'd leave 1 hr for eating, breaks, shopping, and 14 hrs of crop time - I'd get 6 - 9 2 page layouts done, or about 12 - 18 pages. So I'd probably plan to have about 20 - 24 pages kitted.

Also, when I kit, I already know my layout, and have ordered my pictures sized for my layout to start with. I have my paper, stamps, main embelishments, etc all planned out. It just takes me a while to pull it together the way I want it (esp. if I'm inking paper edges, completing stitching on a page, etc).

I generally take around 4 layouts per hour kitted and finish 3/4 of them but again it depends on how much I have to do on the layout.

Good things to know. I've never been to an all day crop (I do go once a week for about 2 hrs) and I do bring enough for one or two 2-page layouts.

I'm hoping to go to an all day crop this spring with some friends and my mom. These posts are giving me some good guidelines.

I meant to add above that I typically bring a two page layout or two one page layouts per hour. I usually spend longer than an hour on most but that is usually my goal for packing. I just came back from a weekend of cropping. All day Friday, All day Saturday, and 1/2 day Sunday (very little sleep but fun!) and I got 44 pages done. I would say I am middle of the road in terms of details on my layouts (I posted some layouts from my weekend under the "show us your handiwork" thread on this section of the forum)

I ended up getting 11 pages done at my crop yesterday. Like I said, I mostly do detailed pages so I work slowly. Overall I was pleased with my output! I did have quite a few pages kitted that I didn't get to, but I just about finished my 2008 Disney World trip (which is good because we have a trip planned again for this fall!). Thanks for your advice!

Great job Hilary!!
How did the kitting go? Do you think it worked for you?
The good thing is too, now you have a bunch of pages kitted and ready to go.

The kitting was great! It really focuses you. I did have some pages kitted with missing items to be purchased at the lss that was hosting the crop so part of my slow pace was shopping time! My goal was to finish the disney album so if I had gotten to the other kits it would have been icing, but no big deal if I didn't!

I have to agree, the kitting does focus you, which everyone knows I need! LOL

I tend to do a bit of shopping too but as long as you get most of it together before hand, you're in good shape and save a ton of money!

I'm glad you had a good time and got some pages done!

I cannot believe how much kitting has helped me improve!! My last 20 - 30 pages have flown by becuase of doing this!! I can polish off anywhere from 12 to 18 pages a a crop now, where as I used to do about 6.

I still have a lot of streamlining to do as I still bring a lot of stuff I do not need to bring, but boy oh boy, my work has improved!! It is cleaner, less "thrown together" and much more polished.

So, when you ladies pack your kits, is that all you bring? Do you bring extra paper, etc?

I'm glad your pages are flying by!! I kit all the time now, including when I work at home.

To answer your question, yes I do sometimes bring extra paper, especially when I'm working on a specific theme like Disney.

And I'll bring a few sheets of basic card stock colors that I use the most.

You ladies are an inspiration...I'm supposed to be going to an 8 hour crop tomorrow morning, but have been struggling with what to bring, what to put in a page kit, etc...
I think I'm going to stay home and just put together my kits so that when the opportunity arises again I will be fully prepared! Keep the inspiration coming!

I've just finished kitting my Panama Canal cruise album for Wannacropit. Every page protector has photos, cardstock, a sticky note of the page title. I will now cut all the titles and put them on X refill strips, in the appropriate pp. Then I will put my journalling in the computer and print the blocks on (probably parchment) paper and put those in the appropriate pp. My "extras" are a Disney Cruiseline scrapbooking kit and some leftover Disney embellis/paper from previous kits.

That should be sufficient for the entire crop, but I will take a secondary project that is not as well planned for a back up.

Then I will pack : Lots of adhesive, my basic tool kit, Ott light, seat cushion and (whatever you call that thing that screws to the table and holds my mug) and call it done.

I packed extra cardstock in a variety of colors and some extra small embellishment items like brads, eyelits, stickles, etc.

I was cropping at my LSS so I had their whole stock at my fingertips though!

How was it? Did you have fun? Get much done?

It was great! I got 11 pages done finishing my disney world 2008 album. I met a nice trio of ladies who welcomed me to their table and look forward to going agin next month!
