My husband was doing yard work today and lo and behold, when he walked to the side of our shed he discovered a mother cat and her 5 babies have been living under the shed.:scared1: The kittens appear to be about 4-5 weeks old and are in good health. As a pet owner, I just don't understand how people can dump off an animal to fend for itself. I have seen the mother cat in our yard several times over the winter, but have never been able to get her to come to me. I was able to retrieve all the kittens, and gave Mommy food. I'm hoping that I can get her to trust me so I can help her. In the meantime, I will take the kittens to the vet. When they are old enough I will get them their first set of shots and find homes for them.

Some days I really dislike humans.

You did a great thing. It's a good thing they were discovered before some wild animal ate them for dinner. I love kitties (I have 3 myself)

Nice of you to save them! :) Can you post pics so we can all enjoy their cuteness?

It's kitten season. We picked up 4 kittens (we foster for a rescue group) on Tuesday, when their feral mama dropped them on someone's porch just before the snow came that evening. They are nice and safe with us now. They are prob almost 5 weeks old now. They have been very entertaining. We have been feeding them Kittem Replacement Milk, and my wonderful hubby let me use his coffee grinder to grind up some kitten kibble to mix with the milk. I can't believe how much they are playing. When I first got them, they didn't know what the ball was, and one of them swatted it and it moved, he arched his little back and hissed. Now they bat it all over the place.
It only took two days to get them using the kitty litter (a chore their mama had taken care of for them before). Three days to get everyone eating on their own, instead of me feeding them.
I hope you are able to get mama and kittens and maybe you can get a rescue group to help you get her spayed, so she doesn't go out next month and do it all over again.

That's how we got our cats when I lived at home (this was prior to my getting married and moving out of the house).

My father found a mother cat with her 4 kittens living under our deck in 1995. Originally he was to try and befriend the mother cat so that the kittens can be adopted out. However, we all fell in love with them and adopted the mother cat and three of the kittens. The fourth one was adopted by my cousin.

Two of the cats we had were hit by cars when they were older, and the mother cat had to be put to sleep a few years ago :sad1:. The only cat left now is the youngest, whose name is Timid (and yes, she is very timid).

I will try to figure out how to post pictures so you can see them. They have a serious case of the cutes. It is going to be so hard to give them up when the time comes. But I already have 4 cats that I have acquired as strays over the past several years. It was love at first sight with one of the little girls though, so now we will have 5. Honestly, I started out with one stray that some kids brought to our house, then said two was my limit when I found a kitten under my car in the driveway. Then we rescued Jasmine from the shelter and I swore that 3 was ABSOLUTELY IT! Then my youngest found a kitten in our back yard, so then we had Abby join the family. So then it was 4 was the ABSOLUTE limit. Yeah, right. You can see how that is working out for me.

Since the day all my strays wandered into our lives they have never been back outdoors and spend their days lounging in the front windows watching nature from inside. It's funny, but even though they were all rescued as strays living outside, none of them ever try to go outside. They will sit by the door and smell the air but if you open the door they will walk away.

:flower3: Thank you to all kitten/cat rescuers.:goodvibes

Here they are! Seriously adorable aren't they?

Tigger, which one is the 'love at first sight'? I am guessing the one on the left, maybe?

That picture screams "Warning TOO Adorable " The one who is laying down, that kitten is just chillin.

Back in 2003 when we were in the process of selling our house we discovered a cat had kittens under our deck. We could not get close to them. They would come out and roll around in the sun on the deck but if they heard anyone they'd scamper back under the deck. About 2 weeks after we noticed them they left. Well, all but one. The mama had left one behind. We ended up adopting her and named her "Stitch" ("'Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten.").

She was a great kitty but we had to have her put to sleep when she was 5 years old. She had all kinds of health issues...maybe that's why mama left her behind.

We had something similar.

A stray cat gave birth under our porch in August 1995 with 5 kittens. We adopted the mother and 3 of the kittens, my aunt took the other two. Unfortunately, only one is left :(

The mom moved into another house, one of the kittens died in 2002, one was a boy cat and just moved on. My aunt's kittens: one died earlier this year and the other was killed by her previous neighbor .

The one who is left is a diluted calico named Callie, of course ;).

Thank you for taking care of the kittens. They are so adorable. It just breaks my heart to hear the terrible abuse stories out there. So, it is always uplifting to hear the positive rescue stories.

we went through this last year too! altho it wasnt our shed but our next door neighb ours whom we share a driveway with. it was the afternoon i was booking our disney trip last year. dh called me outside and lo and behold there were three kittens. we had seen the momma all winter not knowing she was pg. shed coem to our deck and rip into our garbage in the middle of the day. cauhgt her numerous times. the next afternoon she caught on and moved her babies away. they were so cute and as a kitty owner it broke my heart too. no shelters could take her, suggesting to us to feed her. um yeah ive got two indoor cats and two kiddos...that wasnt happening. we finally heard back from some places a week after she moved them and disappeared. it was so sad.

OMG! The cat we gave my cousin was a calico and we named it Cal for short. When she got the cat, she named it Sonia (from Mortal Combat).

We (well, my mom now) also have just one left as well. It's amazing that it's the runt of the litter and the one who is very timid (hence her name). But she definately loves her pettings!

OMG they are so cute!!! Which is the one you're keeping?

I would love another kitten, I really miss my cats being tiny fluffballs! But I think I would be trading one kitten for one husband!
