Kitten's liver shutting down *UPDATE*

My sister's 6 month old kitten she got from a pet rescue is going into they think, liver failure. The vet is testing him for many things. Right now "Collin" is on IV's but they aren't sure he is going to make it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also she found out he was never fixed even though they gave her a paper that he was.

We were told with our pony that when the liver starts to go, it's the beginning of the end. She was 23 years old, and although we went to great lengths to try to save her, she did have to be put down in the end.

Currently, we have a beagle who is 12 years old who was recently diagnosed with liver disease. The vet has put her on prescription meds and on a special diet for her liver. While the liver will probably be what eventually gets her (she's already lived through cancer), the vet thinks she'll have quite a bit of time left.

Both of these animals were pretty old. I'm not sure what the prognosis would be with such a young kitten.

Thanks for all your kind words. My sister now is just thinking about the other kittens that came from that rescue. She is aslo thinking if he was never fixed whose to say if he even got his baby shots.

My kitty went into liver failure last year. After 8 weeks of tube feeding, her liver repared its self and she was just fine. Talk to the vet about your options as there are often (not always, but often) treatments for kitties with liver problems.

Well my sister's kitty passed away. He ended up having FIV. It is something he should have been tested for before the rescue placed him. They now admit that he never recieved any shots & never nuetered him (on his paper work they said it was done and dated ). So after spending about $1000 on this kitty, he is gone. The rescue is going to have a meeting about the situation and see what they can do to make this right for her. It should have never happened

nikki, I am so very sorry for yor sister's lss. A little kitten can creep in and steal your heart away very quickly. I am sorry the rescue didn;t do their part. It was wrong and i hope the do your sister right.

I am so sorry for your sister and her poor kitty. If I were your sister and didn't get any recompense from the rescue agency, I'd go to the media. I know people on here seem to say that a lot, but I'm sure many others get pets from whatever group that is (I am in Ohio too, is it in NW Ohio?. There is one cat rescue group in town with a terrible reputation because the woman takes on too many cats and then can't take care of them properly). And if your sister has paperwork saying the kitty had shots and was fixed and that is all a lie, other pet buyers need to be protected.

After she left a message saying that she contacted *$%## by email. (We haven't heard back from them yet.) They got back to her and they are now admitting fault. The cat was with other cats at Petsmart and he had a sister too. All those cats were exposed and some other families may be going through the same thing. She just wants other familes to be aware.
