kitten deaths question

:grouphug:

buzz2400 - bless you for taking in those kittens and giving them the best possible care. You've done all you can to help them survive. I'm so very sorry for your loss. :sad1: As someone who has raised a feral kitten from birth, it's not an easy job...even under the best of circumstances.

Sending good thoughts and prayers for the surviving kitten to pull through. Hang in there! Please keep us updated.

I am so sorry to hear this news. :( You have done so much for these babies and I am sure that you will have opportunities in the future to help so many more. It is so hard to lose a kitten.

I haven't had a chance to get online and check on you until today. I am so sorry! I asked my rescue friends and they all said distemper. I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling. What you can hold on to is that these little guys had all kinds of love that they would not have had if you hadn't stepped up.

Sorry you had to go through this. Fostering kittens can be a big joy or a heartbreak. When we bring them in out of the wild, we never know what, if anything they are harboring. We do the best we can, and it sounds like you did. You gave them love and a comfortable place to live, while they battled the distemper. Can't ask for anything more than that. They seldom pull out of distemper but once in a while one will surprise us.

If you do take in other kittens to foster in the future, I still suggest you keep them away from your other cats until you are sure they are healthy. There is a lot more out there than distemper.

Thanks for trying with these babies.

UPDATE: The fourth kitten was doing fine until sunday evening when she stopped eating. The rescue lady had printed out a thing about distemper and it said that if you keep the kitten hydrated, fed and giving antibiotics, the kitten could get through it by building up the antibodies in the next five days. So been giving her food through a syringe, rescue lady is hydrating her every night, she is being given antibiotics every day. She seems to be hanging on. So everyone cross your fingers. I will keep you updated.

Fingers crossed -- good luck! I have four feral kittens in my home that just hit the 12 week mark with nothing more wrong with them than a little bit of roundworm. I'm am counting my blessings on that every day! (They're little hellions, but cute as the dickens.)

:earsboy:

UPDATE: She ate on her own this morning!!!!!! I told my mother, who is watching her during the day, to still feed her with the syringe (but not as much as we were) just to get her strength up. She is such a little fighter.

This little one was the first kitten we caught and she was such a vicious little one. Even the rescue lady was a little afraid of her. They called her Cujo. Now she is such a little cutie. I named her socks at first because it looks like she has socks on (she is black with white feet). But she is being renamed Princess Leia because she is a fighter, not afraid of anything and it seems like the force is with her.

I will update in a few days to let everyone know where we stand but it looks like good news.

Awwwww. :lovestruc

Sending lots of :wizard: and good thoughts your way. Hang in there, Princess Leia! :goodvibes

Final Upate: Princess Leia is doing very well. The vet said she can come out of quarantine on Wednesday. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers.

As the mama of a rescue cat that was marked feral, thank you for fostering these cats. Jasper was marked as feral, then fostered, then adopted by us. the adoption never would have happened without a foster mom working with him and loving him in those weeks before we got him.
