Kitchen Sink Catastrophe

I thought I would share with you our family experience with the famous "kichen sink"...

For those of you who do not know about this culinary wonder it is a GIGANTIC sundae with I think 10 scoops of ice cream with every topping imaginable (including a whole can of whipped cream) that is served at Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club resort.

MY DS9 had been asking for YEARS for us to buy him a kitchen sink (we have been coming to Disney since he was 2). However, every time we went to Beaches and Cream, we would get burgers or sandwiches or whatever and were just too full to order this mammoth sundae. ...and to be honest DH and I were relieved. So year after year my DH and I avoided getting one, but finally relented when he was 7.

It was the last day of our trip and he reminded us that "we promised", and so we decided we would order the kitchen sink as our lunch (no food), before heading off to the airport. The waitress allowed DS and his sister who was 9 at the time make the sundae. They PILED every topping known to man on the sundae. I was grossed out before I even put my spoon in it. I had about three bites as it was a primeordial soup. :scared1: But the kids, especially DS went to town on this thing.

Flash foward an hour later on the way to the airport in our rental car...DS informs us he isn't feeling well and proceeds to throw up all over the back of our rented minvan!!!  :crazy2:

When we pulled up to the car drop off, needless to say we were scared to break the news to the attendant. DH was ready to pay a "clean up" fee...but the guys, unfazed just said "oh don't worry, it happens all the time". IT DOES???!!!! No problem, no charge.

From this day forth, DS has never lived this down. We always ask if he'd like another kitchen sink, and he's such a good sport and of course says "no thanks".

Hope you enjoyed our family saga...

This would happen to my family as well...I'll keep this story in mind when my kids are begging for this! ;)

Our family couldn't think of starting our vacation without the kitchen sink! It is usually our "lunch" on the day that we arrive. All 5 of us share it and we eat nothing else... and never ever finish it. For us it is a tradition that we follow happily. I could not imagine trying to eat that before we left! Kuddo's for trying it... next time (if there is a next time for you) try it in the begining.

Well, I think the reason it was so bad was because they allowed the kids to make it. They put alot of candied fruit on it which gave it a weird flavor. I have seen it on Great Hotels when Samantha Brown ordered one and it actually looked good (if not huge).

But we still love the No Way Jose, which is also enough to share!!!

I certainly wasn't intending to ruin it for others who want to try it, or who already love it. :goodvibes

It wasn't the kitchen sink, but we returned out last rented car in Orlando in the same condition. Our daughter, after seven days of fun (at 2 1/2) threw up in the back seat. She just wasn't well and was overtired.

:sunny: Thanks for sharing your family saga ... my dh wants to order it by himself - lol - no way he can hardly finish his now way jose without my help :rotfl2:

Never had one. But judging from the pictures, I am surprised Disney doesn't make you sign a waiver when you buy one.

Last summer we were eating at Beaches and Cream and the family in the booth behind us got the Kitchen Sink delivered to their table as we were about to order. They seemed to be having fun and then....their dd who looked about 8 got sick. LUCKILY my back was to them and my dh said, "DON'T turn around!" He knew I wouldn't be able to eat if I did. Poor little girl was crying, her dad was apologizing to the staff who told him it happens a lot. I felt really bad for them.

Oh my gosh!! I guess we weren't the only ones!! Poor little girl!

Also made me wonder how many times we rented a car with a previous "mishap".

We haven't had the pleasure yet ;) but this is the year! :thumbsup2 We're going for it. There are 8 of us but at least 2 are complete amateurs. :teeth: We have been in training for the event over the last month or so, :rotfl2: ordering the biggest shareable desserts available at our local restaurants although nothing comes real close to what I imagine this delicacy to be. We're feeling confident though that come July we'll be in perfect shape. ;)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I agree the gummi's and the sourpatch stuff tastes a little strange with ice cream!! ick... but that certainly won't stop us from trying this summer again!

We had one early in our trip last time, and what we did was bring a ziploc bag and put many of the "accessories" (candy, etc.) in the bag to take back to our resort and keep in the refrigerator for snacks. We figured whatever we didn't eat was going to get thrown away anyways so we weren't taking anything (unlike a buffet). Then we primarily ate the ice cream and topping. Gotta admit, though, even doing that, I wasn't up to getting in the car and taking a 1/2 hour drive afterwards.

Wow - all these Kitchen Sink experiences.

In 2003 we took a group of 4 adults - 2 teens and 3 children to Beaches and finished 2 kitchen sinks.

In 2004 we took 6 adults and 4 children and finished 2 kitchen sinks.

In 2005 we took 4 adults and 2 young children and finished 1 kitchen sink.

This year, in August, we are taking 7 adults and 4 children (the same 2004 group) plus an 2 adults and 3 children. We are talking at least 3 kitchen sinks this time.

No, there is never anything left in those sinks when we finish. And, no we don't eat dinner first.

But, it's a large group of family and friends -- and an experience not to be missed!

Just this past April, we had 4 adults and 1 child and we ate the Sorcerer's Hat ice cream at the Disney Soda Shop in Los Angeles.

my two dd's(13 and 9) and i ordered a kitchen sink during our last trip. it was delicious. i agree witht eh op that it was some kind of soup about halfway through it. we didnt finish it, but, man we gave it a good try. we were stuffed. the toppings were awesome. the chocolate cake topping was eaten first. we then walked to epcot, and i am happy to report, i talked my youngest dd out of going on mission space.

We ordered one a long time ago when they still allowed the voucher coupons that got you a meal and dessert for 11 dollars. I guess it was a precursor to the meal plan. There were five of us and we didn't make a dent. The gross thing was that eight people at the table next door DIDN'T SEEM TO THINK THAT ONE WAS ENOUGH!!!! They ordered two and ate every bit. It was so unbelievably gross, and our waiter told us stories about singles who eat them in record times. Still, Beaches an Cream is our favorite restaurant and we go every trip.

No offense to anyone that likes it, but I can understand your son getting sick. It makes me nauseous looking at it.
