Kitchen question...

I know they say that the kitchens are stocked with service for 12 (we're in a grand villa) and pots and pans. But, I am looking for something more specific.

For example: I am assuming that they will have plates, bowls, glasses, spoons, forks, knives.

BUT: what exactly are these pots and pans? How many? Do they have a frying pan, a sauce pan, 2 QT or 4 QT, and stockpot? Do they have mixing bowls? Can opener? Do they have roasting pans for the oven? Cookie sheets? I'd really hate to transport my whole kitchen only to find out they had what I was lugging with me, but there are certain essentials I won't risk being without.

Also, what is the quality of their cookware? Are they the really cheap, thin aluminum pots and pans, or are they reinforced stainless steel quaility?

This is our first DVC trip, so I have never laid eyes on their kitchens!
Thanks so much, you guys have been a great help!

This should give you an idea of what's available in the kitchen. Oh, salt and pepper is available on request too, even though it's not mentioned.

I honestly can't remember what the pans were like, hopefully someone else will be able to let you know.

Anyway, hope that helps,

Charlotte

The pans in the 1 and 2 bed villas (and I assume the GV is the same) are stainless steel - they must be good quality because last time we were there I accidentally turned on the wrong hob button and heated one up empty and we only noticed when it was bright red and glowing! It was a bit scary - thought it might go BANG but it cooled down, didnt warp and was fine (just a bit discoloured).

Yes they do have a frying pan, and 3 or 4 sizes of saucepans (in the UK we call them saucepans regardless of size) - some were pretty big. Yes they do have mixing bowls - I seem to remember a stainless steel one and a couple of plastic bowls too. There is a can opener. There wasn't much in the way of roasting pans or baking sheets for the oven.

Hope this helps

Yes, what is mentioned above, but there is also a glass 9X13 baking pan, and we have found if you need something that is not on the usual list, they can often bring it to you. For example, they used to have mixers in all the units, but not anymore. We often request and get one though, if we are doing any kind of baking. I like to make pancakes and brownies, and the blender doesn't work all that well for those.

You guys rock. Thanks so much, that list was exactly what I was looking for and your tips are going a long way to helping us pack appropriately!

THANK YOU!

Geez, I hope you are driving. Otherwise are you really going to pack a bag with your 10-piece set of All Clad?

The pots are a decent quality Rever-ware type. There are cookie sheets, brownie pans(glass Pyrex),salad bowls, storage bowls, a colander, appropriate cooking & serving utensils...really, it's very well-stocked for a vacation condo. I don't think it'll be necessary for you to transport pots & pans etc.

What kind of cooking do you do on vacation??? Do you do a lot of giurmet-type meals, where super quality pans would be necessary? Most folks do simple meals, so as to not have to spend a lot of time in their unit and thus miss time touring.

If you also need additional pots, they can usually provide those also. I forget what my mom was cooking the one time, but she needed 2 large pots and we just called down and they brought an additional one.

Yeah, my husband is driving down...HA! I can just imagine me wrestling a 17 month old and a four year old and my huge suitcase full of pots and pans into the Magical Express! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I cook everything from scratch...I don't think of them as "gourmet" meals, most are pretty simple to prepare. They don't need to be SUPER quality, but if it was the really, really cheap stuff I would want to know because you can't really cook *anyting* in those horribly cheap aluminum pans. Unfortunately, I have been stuck in that position before!

Of course, I should know that this is DISNEY and have given them more credit than that!
:-)

The GV pots and pans are the same as the 1 and 2 bdrs. Keep in mind that they are not non-stick. I wish they would stock one frying pan that was non-stick. But as the other posters said they are of decent quality. We always eat breakfast in and an occasional dinner. It's always been conveniently stocked for what we needed.

What I find most lacking is the "leftover" container storage. Yes, I've used the cereal bowls and cover it with plastic. But then we usually are short a bowl when eating a meal that we need a bowl for soup, bowl for salad, and a bowl for the ice cream. It's hard to eat ice cream on a flat plate.

Bring those Ziploc or Glad brand like rubbermaid containers. I don't cook gourmet but I do make things from scratch. I've never lacked for pots just "leftover" storage containers.

Happy cooking,

MMCD
