We have recently had to rebuild most of our house, and I now have a kitchen island on wheels left over. I have found tons of ideas online to BUILD a kitchen island, but nothing on how to use one in some other way when it's no longer needed in the kitchen. Any ideas?

Obviously, I don't know what it looks like, but can you remove the wheels and use it as a buffet or a piece of furniture somewhere in the house for storage?

My husband is using ours in his workshop. Nice sized surface for working and great storage

Another thought.. put it outside in a covered area for doing potting or such?

In the laundry room to store laundry supplies and for a folding area? In the basement for storage? In the kids' play area for toy storage? Media storage in the living room/family room after a coat of paint?

Wow you already have lots of ideas. We had a "sort-of" island that I now use in my laundry room for folding clothes. I have a neighbor that bought a tool station workshop thing from Lowes with a butcher block counter top that they use as their island. I would assume your island could work in the reverse in your garage or utility room?

I don't really have a place for it inside - we are trying to remain 'uncluttered,' we've had problems with that before and we're trying to do better with our new start. I'm thinking it will end up either in my husband's shop, or on the back porch as a work space near the grill (when we get one!). I thought I might be able to find some pics of some that had been painted or something, but I can't find ANYTHING!

I personally would use it as a cutting/pressing station with storage underneath in my sewing room.

You could also use it in the garage as a work bench, in the laundry room as a table to fold your clothes on, on the patio/porch as a bar or serving counter. Kids could use it in the playroom to be a store counter or for using as a homework station. In the yard as a potting bench near the garden. It could be a bar in the finished basement or a corner of a dining room....

Yeah, I'd find plenty of ways to use it. Maybe google IKEA KITCHEN ISLAND HACKS for more.

If I had a lot of space in my house I would repurpose it as a gift wrapping station -put racks on the side for paper, a dedicated tape dispenser, etc. That would be swanky! ;)

That is EXACTLY what I was going to say :thumbsup2

My other idea was a craft table.
