Hi Everyone!

I'll be going to WDW in a couple weeks for a Disneymoon and was curious about what I should pack in my kit. I plan to bring a 16-35mm, 24-105mm, and a 50mm. I have a 70-300 as well but was unsure if I should bring it or not. Do you guys find yourselves reaching for tele's while traveling around the properties?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Most want something with longer reach for AK. I like something with longer reach for the shows (mostly at DHS, but also the castle stage show at the MK).

I would probably be tempted to settle for 105 as my longest reach, but I'd be very conflicted about it and second guess myself along the way! :lmao:

Well at least you understand why I'm so conflicted! That's a good point about the shows, I had only really thought of the AK. Trying to pack as light as possible too so this will be a tough decision

My 24-105 is my walkaround. Crop or full frame, it's what I prefer. I would pull out the 70-300 at AK but that's the only place. But generally I'm a take everything on the trip just in case kind of girl. You can always leave what you don't need in the room but it's a little difficult to use what you left at home should you need something you didn't bring.

hey there i usually leave my 50mm 1.2 on all day in the parks - ive found that works best for me

ive brought my 70-200 before and it never really comes out, id only bring it now if i was planning on heading over to animal kingdom

make sure to bring a tripod for the fireworks and long exposure shots if you can

shoot, have fun and enjoy your honeymoon

My DH and I had a similar debate on our recent trip. We both carry dSLRs and have a variety of lenses in the two bags. Some of which cover the same range.

We thought about consolidating and lightening the load but in the end, we packed almost every lens we had.

I was so thankful we did. 5 days into the 27 day vacation, my favourite lens stopped working. With the range of lenses we had, I ended up being able to capture the rest of the holiday.....not necessarily in the way that I had thought I would. If the lenses hadn't been in the bag, I don't think I would have been able to do so. Or worse....I might have been tempted to re-route the holiday to the nearest photography shop in order to purchase a replacement.

Take the lens. You never know what will happen. At the very worse, you can leave the lenses in the hotel room.

For me personally, I rarely zoom beyond 50mm. I generally prefer wider shots. A 30mm prime is just fine for me while running around the parks. I do have a 75-300mm beer can that I got for a ridiculous price by bundling with my dSLR. I have only used it once, and that was simply using it just for the sake of using it. However, that was at the Disneyland Resort. I would think at AK this would be a great lens. I'm traveling to WDW in December I will be packing this lens along. Like photo chick, I like to bring everything just in case and then pick my equipment once I'm at the parks based on my mood. My only issue with the 75-300mm is that A) it is slow, f/4.5-5.6 and B) it is a full frame lens so I'm really using a 112.5-450mm lens on a crop sensor. As a wide-angle kind of guy, a minimum of 112mm sounds awful! But I think I'll not only bring this lens but also use it a lot when I visit WDW because I think it opens up fun opportunities.

I say better to bring your tele zoom and not use it than not bring it and wish you had. No need to live with regret. ;)

I took my 70-210 "beercan" lens on the last trip, and only used it at KS and F!. At KS, there were as many animals were standing right in front of the truck as there were far away, and 70 wasn't wide enough for those shots. At F!, the 210 was a bit too short.

Good advice! thanks!

Definitely bringing the tripod. the 16-35 i'm bringing will mostly be used for the long exposure stuff I'm planning on doing. Thanks!

Are you using a crop or FF camera?

FF

Yea, I will probably regret not taking it, just trying to keep the carryon bag a little lighter! also...27 day vacation AT WDW or was that just a stop? Either way..JEALOUS!

That seems to be the consensus...thanks for the input!

Our choice of lenses partly depends on what kind of photos we are hoping to take. If we want a compressed distance perspective look there is nothing like a long lens to deliver that. * A long lens also works well to isolate individual performers in a show and even to zoom in on their faces. There are plenty of uses for a long lens at all the parks: shows at MK and others; streetmosphere at Studios; performances at Epcot; animals at AK...

We usually carry a long lens wherever we go. With micro 4/3 it is not much extra size and weight. :)

* I understand that focal length does *not* affect perspective but a long lens does allow us to fill the frame with the subject when our choice of perspective requires us to stand far from the subject.
