Well still looking for our second week hotel and only one week to find it !!

I keep picking up on comments from elsewhere on DIS and Tripadvisor about the Old Town area being quite bad for crime nowadays. It's ten years since I was last there. Has anyone stayed in that area recently and noticed if it has taken a turn for the worse.

Mr D,
We stayed at Indian Ridge Oaks in June of 04 and spent a couple of evenings in Old Town, Kissimmee, and took in the Saturday night cruise. We had young kids with us and at no time did we feel unsafe or threatened, we did a lot of walking around the area and saw nothing untoward.

The area is just the same as its ever been in my opinion. However Old Town itself might be slightly marginally worse. On our last evening visit a couple of months ago there a were a number of teenagers who were either drunk or drugged causing a little stir down the main street and no security to deal with the matter. It was an isolated occurrance and we have never seen any trouble there before in numerous visits.

We havent found the Old Town area any different to when we first went 10 years ago, we always rent a villa nearby and visit Old Town at least 3 or 4 times during our trip, the atmosphere is great.

We always stay at the Travelodge oppisite Old town and visit most nights. Although there is not much to do unless you like looking in shops, we have never seen any hint of trouble.

Thanks for the replies. The problem with doing the research on tripadvisor etc is that you usually find it's the more negative posts that catch your eye.

We are actually looking at the Travelodge or Seralago. I stayed at the Travelodge when I first went nearly 20 years ago.

We checked out the Old Town a few times last year and found it to be quite charming. The atmosphere was great and there were no signs of trouble, I recommend the classic cars evening (Saturdays only) if it's still running when you visit.

We'll definately go back in November.

I have to agree with the posters here, we visit Old Town every time we visit Fla and we have never ever seen any trouble or problems. The Saturday night cruise is great, families with young children.. the only thing that puts me off Old Town is Rockies Rocket (Is that still there?) The Travelodge is good, we have stayed there a few times before catching our flight home. We always stay in Mannesota Key and drive up a couple of days before we leave to spend time in Disney before the flight home.

Before we started renting villas we stayed at the Travelodge as well, the one right next door to McDonalds.

My remarks above about Old Town were based on a recent visit not 10 years ago 5 years ago or last year. We have been loads of times and never seen any problems but we did this time.
