Looking to purchase a few more gigs of memory and see that Buy.com has some good deals on Kingston memory right now. The SD cards I have right now are all SanDisk---any thoughts on Kingston cards?

I Google'd it and it looks like they are a pretty reliable brand, but as always, I don't believe anything until I hear it from a fellow DISer. ;)

Also, the largest size card I have right now is a 4GB. Any downside/upside to getting an 8GB other than the obvious facts that you don't have to change the card as often and if you lose the card, you lose more photos?

Thanks!
Ann

I have several Kingston SD cards and they seem to work just as well as any other brand.

Kingston is a reputable brand. You shouldn't have any problems.

I have 8GB cards, both Sandisk. The first one came with the camera and the second I decided to buy an identical one.

I have and use Kingston memory cards. Never have had any problems with them. I bought several when they were on sale. I know you are looking for SD cards and my cameras use CF. I paid $14.99 for a 4gb and $22.99 for a 8gb.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I think I'll be picking up an 8gb and a 4gb for the combined price of $27 including shipping :woohoo:

Niceeeeee. :thumbsup2

Kingston is a reputable brand. I would not be scared of any card 16gb or below from a size standpoint. I do not own a 16gb card but own 4 8gb cards at 300x speed.

I have SD 4GB SDHC and 8GB Kingston and I never have had a problem with either

If you look at the reviews on Amazon (a completely unscientific approach) Kingston cards are rated highly although not as highly as Sandisk Extreme III.
I have some Kingston cards (2 GB CF Elite Pro) and have not had any problems.

Kingston is the main brand I use.

I have a Kingston 4GB and an 8GB. No problems.

Very reassuring responses, as I ordered an 8gb and 2 4gb SD cards. :goodvibes

Bob, I did read the reviews on Amazon (about as scientific as us non-engineers get ;)) and was happy with them and the other reviews I saw on Buy.com and Adorama/B&H. I have SanDisk Extreme III and SanDisk Ultra II cards and like them, but at this point if the Kingston cards are cheaper and about as reliable---why pay more for SanDisk, right? :thumbsup2

My only complaint about Kingston is that they are slooowwww compared to my Sandisk cards. I never use them at my kids sporting events any more because after a few shots, you have to wait for what seems like forever before you can take another shot. I have the elite pro which I think is supposed to be their faster card, but it is not fast! Big difference in write speed between Kingston and Sandisk.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm usually not shooting sports or anything in burst/continuous mode, but for the times when I may be using it to take pictures of the doggies I'll make sure to switch to SanDisk. I have 22GB of SanDisk memory---I'm sure at least a couple gigs will be available ;)

i think i have the cheaper kingston card( green flower, 16gb) and have never had it hang up even in burst mode/6.5fps...i have cf though so maybe sds are slower
