Kingston 2 Gig SD card plus reader...$13AR

Is this a good brand? Can you use it with the Canon S3?

Yes, and yes. Unless I'm wrong, the S3 takes SD cards like my S2 does. I always try to buy Kingston memory cards as they generally have a lifetime warranty (alot of brands do) and they have been very reliable for me. I like the faster cards but this one writes 6Mb per second, so that is really not all that bad. I use the S2 and my most detailed photos are generally only about 3Mb and I don't take one every second, so I think it is good. It is probably a bit slow for video though, but I don't know enough about that to comment.

This is the same one I got about a month or so ago for $20 with no rebate. I now have 3 kingston SD cards, 2 2GB and 1 1GB. The little card reader is a great little gadget to keep in your camera bag for when your out and about, it could come in handy if your at someones house and they want pics or you have a laptop out on the road or something like that.

Guess it could be used as a "thumb drive", too, to move larger files between one's different PC's.

I think the price has gone up? Or the rebate is gone? :confused3 I can't find the lower price now...:sad2:

These buy.com rebate specials typically last only two or three days, so you have to act quickly. That's the bad news; the good news is that they run these kinds of specials pretty frequently. Sign up for their "Best Deals Alert", and you'll get a daily email with the current offerings.

What about this SD card? http://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-te...o-secure-digital-card/q/loc/101/10403745.html I know it is only 1 GB but it should be good for video. And if I use Google checkout, not signed up yet, it would be $13.01. Or do you have any other suggestions?

I want either a 1 or 2 GB card, and one that would be good for videos and pics.

ETA: I need it very soon. We leave for our Freedom of the Seas vacation on April 21. Otherwise, I would just wait around to the next great deal comes around.

If you're planning on using your camera for both pics and video you better plan on picking up more than one card (a good idea regardless IMO). Taking video eats up memory pretty quickly, I think 30 minutes of video uses about 1GB which leaves you no room for pictures if you buy just a single 1GB card.

Check your local Sunday paper electronics store ads, too. I saw some decent prices on 2 gig SD cards this past weekend. If you want to be absolutely certain you have your cards in-hand before your departure date, that might be a safer bet. I had ordered a 2 gig SD card from Buy.com back in January, and the item was out of stock at the time I ordered. Ended up taking about three weeks, as I recall, before I got it. OTOH, my order for the 2 gig card and the usb reader (see original post) arrived in just three days or so. Use buy.com or amazon when you have sufficient time to wait, if there is a delay. You may also want to check www.newegg.com and/or www.zipzoomfly.com.

I do already have a 2GB card. This is more for a backup or if I just go crazy with my trigger finger;) .

I will check out these sites when I get home for work:thumbsup2 .

Sharon,

I just checked the newegg site, and you can get 2 gig SD cards from about $20 to $20, shipped, depending on the brand. Newegg is about as good as it gets in the world of online retailers. I've used them many times over the years, and never had a problem. FWIW, OfficeMax has a 2 GB Sandisk SD card for $25.

I will be passing OfficeMax on Friday, so I will probably just stop in a pick one up if I can't find a better deal.

Thank you for checking this out for me.

One other thing to remember if that if you see a really good deal in the Sunday morning ads, you can usually buy it online to pick up in the store rather than worrying about whether or not it'll be sold out when you get there. I'm not sure if you can do this with Office Max, but you definitely can with Best Buy and Circuit City.

We ended up getting my wife's SD600 from Circuit City on "Black Friday" - it was a slightly better deal than buying online, so I hopped on their site, ordered it, and we strolled in around noontime and picked it up, without having to battle with a mob of crazed shoppers.

Thanks! This is a great deal! You can get the little card reader for less than $8, too! I ordered two plus the reader for $37.00 shipped; I'll be returning my SanDisk to Staples this weekend...:cool1:

I'm glad to hear someone else out there is still using the S2 because I just bought a used one.:yay: I've just started reading through the manual and playing with its features -- hoping to practice, practice, practice so I can get some good shots at Disney next month!

My goal is to take some pictures at Epcot during the flower show and not end up with blurry splotches of color.

I'm not familiar with this brand so hopefully one of the experts can chime in, it's a PQI 2GB 60x SD card for $6 after a $10 rebate, free shipping. I've purchased from Frys/Outpost before and I know they're legit I don't know anything about PQI memory cards.
